Awful nights sleep, very loud parties and then a lot of drunk people shouting outside the room until the early hours. Staff lovely, just bad time of year to stay if you’re looking for relaxation avoid Christmas!

Extra Charges for Pool etc.
Left here rather disappointed as hidden in the small print is the fact that you have to pay extra to use the pool that features so prominently when booking. The costs of which for a couple isn't far off the cost of the whole stay. Disingenuous advertising, won't be staying again...

NO HOT WATER
We stayed for one night as I am in a band and travel around the country a lot. We left it until an appropriate time to have a shower before leaving. NO HOT WATER. I reported the issue to reception. The manager could not be found at first, when he was found it was obvious he must have been out for a smoke as his breathe stunk of fags. I told him we had no hot water and needed to be at my gig for load in at 18:00. He was insistent on checking himself, he then said I will be back shortly. He came back informing me that I would not make the gig but can stay in the room and wait for the maintenance man. After much negotiation we secured a single room for a shower the other side of the hotel (very big place) we came back to our room and relied on the promise that it would be repaired when we returned. It was not repaired when we returned (now 2am) I had been playing drums for over two hours and was in much need of a shower before getting in a clean bed. We confess to realise that we were the only ones in the block so can only assume there was no hot water running too three rooms in this part of the hotel. I complained at reception before checking out in the morning. The lady on reception (between 9am & 10am in the morning) seemed genuine that our complaint deserved a full refund and that was what we would get. WE NEVER. Not even an acknowledgement from them via a message through hotels.com. Very poor was to ruin a hotel

Not great
Bathroom was dirty on check in and cups in room hadn’t been washed from previous guest. Bed was terrible - very very soft and lumpy feeling about 20 years old and making for a poor sleep. Room very cold but was provided a plug in electric heater which helped

Great hotel service but room very outdated
The hotel is extremely dated and absolutely not worth nearly £300 we paid for our deluxe room. Room was spacious but everything else did not match 4 star hotel mark. Old and dated bathroom, no plug sockets next to bed, no mini fridge in the room and very dark (even during the day) without enough lights in the room to make it bright. The corridor leading to the room had a musky unpleasant smell it was quite overwhelming. The overall hotel staff service was outstanding and very friendly, from the hotel reception to breakfast staff.

Disappointing Stay at a Hotel with much Potential
Overall we were fairly disappointed with our stay at Shrigley Hall. While some aspects of the hotel clearly receive investment and attention (the spa, restaurant, and golf), the hotel itself had a lot of potential but was disappointing and felt run down. Our room needed some maintenance and deep cleaning; there was mould around the window and the room needed hoovering. Also, the lift was broken for the duration of our stay which made access quite challenging. Some of the staff were incredibly helpful while others had a less positive attitude. It would have been great to have a mini bar in the room, and to have had turndown services included. At one stage we had to request fresh mugs and glasses, and the dirty ones were still not taken away, as well as request our room was freshened up. The restaurant was good overall, while it was inappropriate for the bar to be advertised as a dining option; it was poorly equipped for this. Breakfast was average. This being said, the property setting is breathtaking, and where parts of the hotel which have been attended to with care and attention is very clear. For a hotel marketed as a luxury/4-star spa hotel we expected more and were disappointed.
