I spent 4 nights at Schulphoek Guesthouse and enjoyed every minute. The facilities are really first rate - Janet and her team have put a great deal of effort into thinking of every detail that a traveler might need, from the first class coffee and tea set (along with nuts, fruit, and more each day), to the towels, robes, and luxurious crisp white sheets. The rooms are enormous and very comfortable, each with its own veranda overlooking the gardens.
Breakfast is hearty and healthy, and more than sufficient for me to only browse lightly during the day until dinner, several of which I took at Schulphoek's restaurant. The setting is intimate and lovely, with plenty of opportunity to interact with other diners or to retreat to your own corner, as you wish. The food itself is fresh and well prepared by the wonderful staff - I had local fish one night and kudu and springbok (both, pretty much the same as venison) the other two. To accompany the meats there was salad and vegetables from the garden, home made bread, and delightful deserts. Oh yes, and while I am not a serious drinker, those who care to can visit the extensive wine cellar to choose their evening beverage.
Most of all, Schulphoek is extremely accommodating to the visitor, arranging for hikes, tours, connections to the airport and more such that my stay was hassle free. Thanks to Janet, Chris and everyone at Schulphoek for the delightful visit.
