Find out more about Financial District

It may be only a few blocks wide, but Toronto's Financial District packs a powerful punch, both visually and economically. Its forest of colorful towers has helped give Toronto the highest concentration of high rises in North America, while the district's financial power has helped launch Toronto into the world's top 10 economically powerful cities. It's not only about high finance here, though. The Financial District is crammed with galleries, theaters, and museums, and also has the world's largest underground shopping complex.

Hotels in the Financial District

As you might expect in a district lauded for its high-rise extravagance, most hotels in Toronto's Financial District are found in its shiny new towers. One exception is the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, a 4-star hotel built in the 1930s whose glamorous style is only outdone by its size. It has over 1,300 guestrooms, as well as a luxury health club, indoor pool, and spa. The 5-star Shangri-la Hotel Toronto, by contrast, is a thoroughly contemporary hotel housed in a 66-story tower, highly praised for its great views, fantastic dining, and outstanding service. Another upscale Financial District hotel is the Hilton Toronto, noted for its business center and excellent meeting facilities.

Things to see in the Financial District

While its prime focus is commerce, this energetic neighborhood contains many of Toronto's cultural and retail highlights too. Several intriguing museums are nestled among its sky-scraping towers. The Design Exchange is a museum dedicated to the finest in Canadian design, its exhibits showcased in an elegant 1930s building. This former Toronto Stock Exchange building is daringly encased is a modern glass-fronted skyscraper. Sports fans will enjoy the nearby Hockey Hall of Fame, whose historic 19th-century building has become a “cathedral to the icons of hockey.” The district is also at the heart of Toronto's famed PATH network of tunnels. These don't just help Torontonians avoid the bitter winter cold and baking summer heat—they are lined by retail outlets which form the world's largest underworld shopping complex. And don't forget Yonge Street, running along the district's east side, known as Toronto's premier shopping promenade.

Good for business travelers

With its high concentration of corporate and financial headquarters, business travelers are well served in this district. Much of the accommodation in Toronto's Financial District is strongly geared towards the business community, with extensive conferencing and meeting facilities. Many provide 24-hour support services in their business centers too. Hotels in the Financial District are also well-integrated into this compact neighborhood, with most high-profile destinations easily walked to, thanks to the district's PATH network. The nearby convention and entertainment areas also provide plenty of scope for corporate entertainment and event-hosting opportunities

How to get to Financial District

For short-haul domestic flights, the ease of access of Billy Bishop Airport is hard to beat. It lies right next to the Financial District, and it takes only 13 minutes to reach Union Station using the 509 streetcar service. You're restricted to flying in from Boston, New York, or Chicago, however. For longer-haul flights you'll have to come in via Toronto Pearson airport. The simplest way to travel to Toronto's Financial District from here is the UP express train service, which will take 25 minutes to get you to Union Station, right in the heart of the neighborhood.
