Patong Hotels

At the heart of the island of Phuket is Patong, a busy, lively resort that's famous for its clubs and lively nightlife. Backpackers and party goers love the high-rise hotels and neon-lit bars, while those seeking luxury will enjoy high-end hotels and sandy beaches with clear seas. With bustling markets, friendly nightclubs, and a fun atmosphere, a trip to Patong is an experience not to be missed.

Things to see

Close to the city, Patong Beach is a busy stretch of sand with clear blue seas, tall palm trees, and views of the surrounding lush green mountains. However, it's more about fun than relaxation here, with boats for hire, scuba schools, and nearby bars playing music to get everyone in a party mood. Along the seafront is a complex of shops and restaurants, and by day you can buy souvenirs or enjoy cheap, traditional Thai food as you look out over the ocean. At night it's a notorious party spot, with clubs ranging from rather cheesy, fun discos, to the sleazy go-go bars with pole dancers in the windows. Patong has a thriving gay nightlife scene too, and if you head to the Paradise Complex at night you'll enjoy a choice of friendly bars and clubs along the neon-lit streets. Most of the bars look a little run down, but have colourful, glittering cabarets, cheap cocktails, and dancing until dawn.

Hotels in Patong

There's a wide variety of hotels in Patong, with the majority in the mid-range 3 to 4 star category. This means you can enjoy clean, comfortable hotels with extras such as free WiFi and free breakfasts included in your nightly rate. Facilities can include outdoor pools, rooftop terraces, restaurants such as hotel buffets, and bars. There are often connecting rooms available for groups who've come to Patong to party, and rooms have all the basics you'll need such as air conditioning, coffee makers, LCD televisions, and refrigerators with free bottled water.

Where to stay

Patong is a 24 hour city, and during the day you can stroll along the beach front enjoying the views over the sparkling blue sea, with lots of bars and cheap restaurants open all day so you can sit outside and soak up the sunshine. Away from the water, you'll find a lively, high-rise city, with busy roads full of mopeds and cheap souvenir shops covered in billboards. It's when the sun goes down that Patong really comes to life, and the streets are drenched in a neon glow from the bars and clubs throughout the city. With colourful themed bars, dancers spilling into the streets, and people trying to tempt you into their clubs, it's a unique place to have a night out.

How to get to Patong

Phuket International Airport is the island's main arrival point, and flights land here from across Asia, Europe, and across the globe. It's about an hour's drive to Patong, and taxis can be expensive, so it's worth choosing hotels in Patong with an airport shuttle service. If your hotel doesn't offer this, consider taking the bus towards Phuket Town, getting off at the Big C Superstore, and from here you can get local buses direct to Patong. There's also a slightly more expensive, private bus service direct from the airport to the centre of Patong, and this can be booked online in advance.
