Fabulous room, rude staff.
I loved the style of the hotel. Our room (Suite M) was huge and had a beautiful view of Augustusplatz and the opera house. The little kitchen was useful and we made breakfast ourselves every morning. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning very effective. As other reviews note, there is some noise from the trams outside, more of a low rumble as the double glazing is very effective. I also noticed a strange buzzing sound in the room which I couldn’t locate, it did cause some disturbance. What let the hotel down was check-in and check-out. The staff tried to charge me for my stay, even though I paid in advance via hotels.com. On check out, the receptionist asked for my room number, then very rudely proceeded to tell me that it was incorrect. I’m sorry, what?! I’ve just been staying in the room for 3 nights, I think I know what number it is. He argued that it was wrong and eventually I just had to leave. Such a shame as we had enjoyed our stay. I’d recommend the place for adventurous and low-maintenance guests who are happy to fend for themselves. If you want a good service experience, then this isn’t the hotel for you.

First, try to find it. Signage is less than minimal. Next, go to the elevator, a very poorly lit place, and take a nondescript elevator to the 6th floor. Be prepared for the line of over a dozen others waiting to check in. They will not check in anyone before three. Nope. Won’t do it. Our room on the third floor was right above the intersection. Great view but the noise of trams, trucks, and every ambulance in the city passes they. Second, summer heat makes the room an oven. One window will open a bit but the noise made us close it and the curtains . That helped contain the noise but then the heat hit us. We failed to get the A/C to work and found no fan to move the air. Groggily, we tried to get to the reception desk to discuss this issue, but, mind you, the elevator up to the reception does not stop at the third floor. Only down. So this senior citizen had to take the first of four climbs up those stairs to reception on the 6th floor. I asked for a refund for the second scheduled night. It was refused. “We can’t do that. Only Expedia can. You need to call them.” Also, “You can’t get air conditioning in your room because there is none. Hotels in Germany don’t have air conditioning.” And portable fans are not provided either apparently. I called Expedia. They said couldn’t. Only the hotel.We were given another room, and rather nice one at that. Quiet. The next morning at check out, the manager asked why we hadn’t turned on the air conditioning.

Location couldn’t be better. Kitchenette was a bonus. All utensils were of good quality. Bed had a topper to make it more comfortable. Enjoyed our 6 day stay.

Excellent stay close to everything
The apartment was massive with lots of space. Kitchenette was well equipped and king bed was comfortable. The view from our apartment was great given the Christmas market lights and festivities. Breakfast was a bit chaotic on the second day due to large crowds but good selection of continental breakfast.
