Sakura Hotel Nippori - Tokyo
Good6.0
Good option for some.
Cons:The futons are extremely thin. I was having shoulder issues that made me choose this hostel, because to have my own single bed(mat) would at least give me room to sleep without having to share bed with my boyfriend and risk crushing my painful shoulder. Other hotels made getting two singles much more expensive or were totally unavailable in our price range. However , I was also experiencing hip pain which made it extremely difficult to get up and down from the ground(bed). I am 48 , not elderly yet, but having a rough go of it this year. My boyfriend wasn't thrilled about the wafer thin futon pads either, but he didn't struggle like me. We used every available extra pad and comforter in the room in order to try to improve comfort. The staff did say we could request more, but no matter what we added to the bed, it didnt seem to make much difference. As others mentioned, the rooms are incredibly small. The pictures don't quite capture it. I actually thought the tatami rooms looked charming, with the little table and cushions. In reality the table was a shaky plastic table and there was no cushion.I used a spare pillow to sit on when digging through bags. I used the bare shelves(from where we removed every spare piece of bedding) as my closet. Having to get up to turn the light off at the entry door was irritating. Shared bathroom was fine. Pros: most of the staff and neighborhood.Filtered/hot water dispensers. Ability to use dishes for own food.Scrambled eggs

Very good location and quiet. Only the mattress is little bit harder for me. Next time going to Tokyo I will definitely stay here again.

Mostly good
The staff and ambiance were very nice and the location is excellent in a quiet suburb of Tokyo. Easy to get to from the train. We stayed in the "traditional" Japanese style room (our first time), which means you sleep on the floor. A small mat is provided but it adds little comfort, so if you're not used to sleeping on the hard ground, I wouldn't recommend booking that type of room! Also (minor complaint) all the doors in the hallways and bathrooms close with a bang and echo, making it quite noisy if a lot of people are coming and going. Overall nice stay though -- just be prepared to sleep on hard floor if you book the "traditional" room.
