"Hotel style" ryokan
Wonderful stay! The place seems spanking new, everything is perfectly clean around the hotel, and in the rooms. Beds were very comfortable, tatami in the room was great, having a hot spring bath in the room was excellent for a late night soak before dozing off to sleep. Toiletries were of very good quality, both in the rooms and at the onsen, even makeup remover is provided. Meals were of good quality too, they can feel just a little "mass produced" since a large crowd of diners are fed the same meal in the dining hall, but the good service and good quality of food made me forget that thought. On the hotel grounds is a beautiful little garden as well, and the spa was great too! Overall a great stay in the Gora area and I would certainly go back.

Perfect 10 for Ten-Yu
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The rooms were amazing with an outdoor shower tub on the balcony that allows you to enjoy a leisurely soak and taking in the beautiful peaceful scenery. Onsen was well designed with outdoor and indoor options. Dinner and breakfast were delightful experiences every time. My family of 6 had only praises for this hotel for its attention to excellence.

Love the private open air bath and delicious break
Overall our stay for 3 nights were very nice. Room is very nice with open air bath and lovely views. Outdoor public baths are in good design. Breakfast is delicious with variety of japanese food especially curry and seafood don. However, the hotel should inform guests that train service is suspended at Gora station. Luckily we found out when browsing train schedules. I have contacted hotel twice which bus we should take to arrive Ten-Yu. The Odakyu lines staff told me to take bus no 5 with 1 min walk. But your hotel staff told me we should take bus no. 3. The bus stopped at Yunessen. We had to carry our big luggage’s walking up to the slopes for 6 minutes to arrive the hotel. In our room, your housekeeping cleaner has removed my personal toothbrush. I cannot find it!! The basin still had stains!!

Beautiful Hotel
Beautiful hotel located in the beautiful city of Hakone. The rooms were extremely clean, comfortable and had a an amazing view. We thoroughly enjoyed the open air onsen and the hotel onsen! Lots of variety for breakfast and dinner was a lovely course meal! Hotel could improve on the check-in/check-out process. It took an unusually long time to check in and out. We had to sit in a waiting area instead of go up to a counter to sort everything out.

Beautiful Hotel
Lovely Hotel with a great view. Weather was rainy and cloudy all over Hakone but the hotel really made up for it.

We traveled here a few days after a typhoon swept the city. Many sites were closed; which of course is not the fault of the hotel. They told us they contacted potential customers that resided in Japan, but not foreigners because they may not have had a place to stay. In a world connected by the internet we would have gladly welcomed this information and the option to cancel. We decided to leave the next morning. The hotel ordered a taxi, upon our arrival, to fit 5 passengers and 10 pieces of luggage (we had traveled this way twice before) for the following morning. The taxi they sent could only seat 4 with the luggage being crammed on our laps and in every square inch of the vehicle. Two people had to share a seat and seatbelt. The manager REFUSED to help to remediate the situation or offer to offset the cost of a second cab. He kept us waiting without providing any alternate solutions for over an hour. We had already paid and missed our earlier train reservations because we were assured the taxi they promised would accommodate all of us. We did stay overnight. There was only one masseuse available and the experience was average. The food was average as well. The overall facility is beautiful. We have stayed at four other hotels during our stay in Japan and every experience was stellar with outstanding service. The manger here was unhelpful and rude. Additionally, they have a huge mini-bus that wasn’t offered for a tour or to help us in anyway. I’d opt for another hotel

The dinning experience wasn’t as good as anything else. I’ve been served the next dish while I didn’t finish the last one, I felt I’ve been rushed to finish the meal.

Don't make the mistake I did.
I made a mistake in booking the property and booked the room for only one person rather than two. Upon checking in we were charged a 28k Yen 2nd person supplement for the 1st night and 30k Yen for the second night. The nightly rate was only 47k Yen so this seemed somewhat excessive and made the stay significantly more expensive than planned. (The cost would have been much cheaper at time of booking). Totally my fault but ensure you do not make the same mistake. The rooms are average and the bathrooms are below average. Fortunately the food, especially dinner, is excellent. Hakone is a fabulous area but expected to spend significant time on their public transport system getting around. 500 Yen per person charge to use the bar after 5pm. Makes that single pre/post dinner drink expensive and explains why we were the only people in there.
