Excellent stay with helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and English speaking staff. Rooms and leisure space clean, comfortable and tidy. Breakfast provided is not extensive, but there are a selection of cold cereals, breads, pancakes and pastries, hot scrambled eggs, a second hot selection that changed daily, veggies and fruit, ham and a changing cold cut. Hot tea or coffee and juices or soda are available for breakfast and complimentary the rest of the day. Sight seeing recommendations and weather updates posted daily. Handicap friendly.

One of the Best We’ve Stayed At!
Very, very nice hotel. Goto who worked the front desk was very kind and attentive. So was the other staff. They have free breakfast which is a mix of western and Japanese foods. Simply amazing and I would definitely stay again. Also super close to the train station. Literally across the street with an elevator.

Great choice in Kyoto
Very good hotel, great service, small rooms like all hotel rooms in Japan. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff and the free snacks and drinks are a plus! Also very close to the Omiya bus stop and a local train that goes straight to the bamboo groves

Small, nice hotel in Kyoto. It is fairly centrally located, several blocks south of Nijo Castle. It is not really close to Kyoto Station, but it is just a couple blocks from another rail station (Shijo Omiya). Our room was pretty small but it was very clean and efficiently laid-out. Everything in the hotel and the room was quite nice and everything functioned well. Hotel staff spoke English well and were very friendly and helpful. The hotel seems committed to green initiatives, making a point of recycling cups, etc. Breakfast was pretty good, and there is a nice cafe area to sit and eat. A couple of the choices -- egg salad, tuna salad -- were a bit weird for breakfast from a western perspective, but they were good and filling. The cafe area is available at all hours for free coffee or tea and coin-operated vending-machine drinks. It is a comfortable and homey place to eat if you bring some food back to the hotel with you. There was no view from the room as the windows were made of mottled (hammered) glass with embedded chicken wire. This kind of industrial-look glass is translucent but does not afford a clear view through it. However, it was possible to open the windows a little for a bit of a view and some air. There were also large windows in the hallways with normal glass from which you could get a view of the area. Cab drivers did not seem to know this hotel, so we had to show them the address. We enjoyed our stay at Karaksa and would stay there again.
