Incredible Relaxing Stay Mizunoto!
I absolutely loved my stay here!! As a disclaimer, this was my third onsen and first ryokan I visited, and I typically prefer new, glass-heavy hotels to ensure cleanliness of the facilities. Although I was initially hesitant booking Mizunoto due to the old-appearing pictures on their website, I ended up completely loving my entire experience!! The double room in the main building I booked was much bigger than I was expecting (even had a small entry area with a mirror and closet), and things were very clean and well kept! They had many free amenities that were a welcome surprise, including a free shuttle to and from Kowakidani Station, in room snacks, dispenser for coffee/tea, and milk/popsicles/yakult after baths, and even late night ramen. Their hospitality was second to none, and I felt so welcomed by the staff. Both dinner and breakfast are included, with multiple times available. The standout though were their onsens— between the three private baths and the 3-4 baths on each side in each building (they switch men and women sides so you get to experience ~7 public baths in each building), I spent hours in the many different onsens and felt so relaxed! I also received an incredible massage. In addition, the hotel had a great location, only a five minute walk from the buses, which can easily take you down to Lake Aishi, Gora area, and Open Air Museum (the time tables and google were quite reliable). The only thing I would change is about my stay was to stay longer!!

8/10 Very good

Generally very good. Excellent food and service. Highly recommended. Two slight concerns: 1) Double bed is a bit too small for two and (2) Wi-Fi is unstable and slow.

I love how quiet the property is and the hot springs are amazing as it gives my skin a nice makeover. Everything is clean and staff is super nice. You can get by just fine without knowing much Japanese.

Really enjoyable trip
I stayed here for two nights on my own. Really enjoyed this trip to Mizunoto Hotel. They had particularly good onsen and the Japanese breakfast and kaiseki dinner were fabulous. Staff generally had limited English but did their best to accommodate in spite of same. Room was very compact but comfortable. I appreciated that I could do laundry for free - what a bonus! I hesitate to give the hotel five stars on the grounds of attention to detail. There were a few things missed in the cleaning (eg a couple hairs in the shower, a bit of dust on surfaces) and a number of things needed servicing, such as broken boards in the vanity in the onsen, or doors that don’t close completely. In spite of this, it’s a lovely hotel with gorgeous onsen. I would definitely come back.
