Before you book, they allow loud, dirty children
Just before my flight from New York to Singapore landed, embarkment forms were handed out requiring the address I would be staying at in Singapore - I did not yet have one, so in a panic I bought wifi on the plane and booked 7 nights at River City Inn. In my rushed booking, I did not see that the hostel was all the way up on the 4th floor without a lift, but on arrival one of the two ladies helped me haul my masses of luggage up the stairs. The actual building the hostel is in doesn’t feel the cleanest, however the ladies ensure that the hostel itself is clean. I stayed in the 10 bed mixed dorm, but really it’s a room with 12 bunk beds in separated by a curtain rather than a door so that they don’t have to invest in more air-conditioning, which is in the 14 bed dorm meaning that the 10 bed dorm is hot and humid, not helped by how small the room is, so the beds and lockers take up most of the room with no space to open a suitcase. For the first half of my original 7 nights there were lots of loud little boys who left the showers dirty, urine all over the toilet floors and seas, and mixed the condiments together at the free toast breakfast, so at first I regretted booking 7 nights, but once they left the hostel was better, solely because of the lovely helpful reception girls. I ended up extending my stay by 2 nights because when the hostel was emptier it was bearable, but mainly because I wanted to avoid dragging my luggage down the multiple flights of stairs for as long as pos

Creepy male employee
Location is great. Place is clean. However the one staff member who lives there full time was extremely rude and creepy. I stayed for a week so I was able to see how uncomfortable he makes people feel. He treats the place as his home and everyone who stays there is an invader. First day I stayed there he removed me bag from the room while I was out and refused to acknowledge that fact. After that I just avoided him however I saw how he would walk into the room throughout the day (I stayed in the 14 person dorm) and he would look around and walk back out. I saw this happen at 6am one morning while most people in the room were asleep. This was beyond creepy. He would do this throughout the day. I saw him follow a guest into the shower/toilet area telling him he smelled bad and said “do you need me to show you how to wash yourself?” This is rude and creepy. He said this out loud in front of other guests which is disrespectful towards this guest.I asked to leave and tried to get a refund but the management refused and said I could check out early but I would not get my money back.So I stayed for the whole week but could not wait to leave as I felt so uncomfortable around this one employee. When I did finally leave, this employee stood at the doorway as I was out in the hall pitting my shoes on. He stood there until I left. For what reason he had to watch me I don’t know but it just reinforced how creepy it was to stay here.To be fair, the rest of the staff were good and it’s clean.

Great hostel! Bad wifi and Bad air conditioning!
My stay was a great one. It was very clean. They cleaned the floors every day. No shoes allowed. It was very organized. The staff was very helpful. With every place there are cons. I think the four most important things staying anywhere are air conditioning, wifi, safety and cleanliness. This was definitely a very safe and clean hostel. I loved feeling at ease. I really did NOT like when they would turn off the air conditioner in the bedroom at certain times. They also advertise that the wifi has a strong signal. That is not true. The wifi in the bedroom would not work at all. If there were a lot of people on the wifi network, it too would not work in the common space. It would lag a lot. Other than that, it was very pleasant. I enjoyed it very much.
