Great quiet place, spacious room
The hostel is a small typical Japanese house. Very clean and looks great. Staff are very nice and welcoming. The beds are very spacious and you have lots of 'private' are for you bags. Bread and jam for morning breakfast and coffee/tea. Is a quiet area. And the hostel is quiet as well, is a small hostel. Kitchen is very good. Bathroom and toilet are good and clean. Recommended

Clean, peaceful and good value for money
Close to Omiya station. I had heavy luggage so took a taxi from Kyoto station only 1000yen. There is no lift (elevator) and the stairs are very steep! They will help with your luggage but something to bear in mind. Very calm, quiet hostel and area. There is a common area to meet other travellers, though I wouldn't say it's a super sociable hostel (it was more peaceful, which I liked). Very clean hostel. You have a curtain to give you privacy plus there's enough space to keep your luggage next to your bed so it's like having a little room. Just 2 stops (150yen) from Omiya station to the more touristy Kawaramachi station or you can walk in about 20 minutes (can't get lost just one straight road). Overall good value for money and would stay again.

Look no further...
There is only one place to stay in Kyoto and it's Fairfield House. It's beautiful, the staff are amazing and wonderful. It's super clean, the beds are very comfy and the space although it's a dorm feels very private. The coffee is very good too...drink as much as you like. The bathroom is lovely and clean. The shower is as hot as you like and brilliantly powerful. I highly recommend this place. Thanks to the staff, you really do make Fairfield House a wonderful place to stay.

Very good 8.0
Walking distance to tram/bus stops
Staff are polite and helpful. I was given an map and told how to navigate PT to major attractions with my JR pass. Walking distance from the tram/bus stops to get to Kyoto Station. Bathrooms are the clean and comfortable. Private shower rooms are the best! Bed was comfortable, but I requested an additional blanket to cover a strip of dust I was sure I would roll into in my sleep. This was the only area that I saw that needed cleaning attention. It was hard for me to go up and down the ladder, because I am tall. Would have been better for me to stay in the bottom bunk. Bring an eye mask and ear plugs for those loud neighbors. Arrive during daylight if you are person who gets lost easily. Breakfast is toast with jelly, coffee and tea. The location was the best for the places I wanted to see, because I was in the middle of two attractions on opposite sides of the city. I enjoyed staying here and would stay again.
