      Love to visit agian

Would stay again any time - a friendly welcome, a big soft bed, a surprising ambience that celebrated the earlier times of the Owen's Valley. Don't visit if you expect a generic modern motel/hotel, but do go if you appreciate a more historic & quirky location.

Lovely couple are in-process of renovating historic hotel as a B&B. At the moment continental breakfast is provided in a bag since most customers appear to be hikers (including me).

This is an historic property, some gorgeous wood work from past masters. But its a no frills, bare bones stay. The ceiling fan was a bare bulb hanging, the sink and tub are old, the room had minimal ammenities, but i was grateful for free bottled water. The linen was excellent, the sheets and towels very nice. Its an old place, which has very little upgrades done. It was a good spot to stop, though, and the rest was needed.

So the hotel was cute and historic and had some fun ambiance. But it had two fatal flaws. 1st fatal flaw, no AC in our room on the first floor. There was a fan plugged in and running in our room. 2nd fatal flaw, there was only 1 plug in in the entire room. Half of that plug in was used for the fan. But it was cool and there is film history there, but for a stay? It was a struggle.

Don’t be fooled by the picture. Can’t imagine any fire marshall approving this facility. The interior, including the room, was VERY rustic, absolutely no upgrades. Would expect a room like this to be in the $35 to $40 top, not $150. Either Expedia or the hotel owner was trying to make back all their pandemic losses in one season. We never had any contact with the owner except via the telephone. That contact was very pleasant; however, that is where the pleasantries ended. Upon arriving we went to the hotel desk where an envelope was found containing our room key. We went to our room, thinking this place is a “firetrap” and chose to cut our losses deciding to continue driving another five hours to home.

Winnedumah Hotel is a nice small historical hotel, with charm. The facility needs update and renovation. The breakfast was very simple. However, because of the history this hotel has, it was a worthy stay, even though it was not a comfortable one. Hotels in nearly Bishop would give more comfortable options.

Sweet, but wish it was a little better cared for.

This inn has received many favorable reviews, so please take mine with a grain of salt, but I was rather disappointed. I have managed several B&Bs in Virginia, and it could be that standards are different in the East, but I found this inn to be rather lacking in care of both the property and guest amenities. It’s pretty run down for starters. One enters through a side door into what looks like an old boarding house. The doors at the entrance are shabby and in serious need of paint. As are many of the doors, and other areas. The decor in our room was actually quite sweet and charming in that shabby chic way. The bedding and linens were clean and white, however there were minimal lamps so it compromised the cozy feel. I was padding around in my socks in the room and when I took them off I noticed they were dirty from walking around on the floor. The shower rod had been switched out to a cute one but the place on the wall where the old one was had a round area of missing paint and two gaping screw holes. Patching that and other places of missing paint wouldn’t have taken someone very long. If one looked out into the courtyard one might notice how scruffy it looked out there. The shed also needs paint, at very least on the door. A small amount of effort could make a big difference. Perhaps this acceptance of weathered decline is a western aesthetic. I don’t know. It just seemed careless given the price. Also, no tissues, or coat hangers so very little place for your clothes.
