I booked an anniversary weekend at this hotel. On check in, the manager told us the air conditioning was a bit faulty but should kick in, but it didn’t. Obviously, the hotel knew the air conditioning was not working when we checked in. I complained and told the manager I could not stay there that night. So, they booked another hotel for us anticipating the air conditioning would be fixed Saturday. I had to call the hotel on Saturday to follow up and was told the air conditioning would not be fixed until Tuesday. The hotel they found for us was uncomfortable and in disrepair, so we checked out on Saturday and went home. I had to pay for the other hotel which was supposed to be paid for by the owner of Spicer Mansion. I am also still waiting a month later for a refund from Spicer Mansion for our originally scheduled stay, so I had to file a credit card charge dispute with my credit card company, which is still pending. I called Spicer Mansion a number of times and finally got the owner who said he would comp us a weekend so we could re-live our anniversary. I told him the weekend of September 12 would be good for us. Not surprisingly, I checked with the hotel on September 8 to confirm our reservation and there is no record of it. I am truly at a loss for words. In all the years I have traveled and to places all over the world, I have never encountered anything like what we went through with this establishment. My anniversary weekend ended up being a disaster.
We traveled to the area for the day and decided last minute that we wanted to stay over night. I went on Expedia as I always do to see if were available rooms anywhere. I found the Spicer Mansion and the pic of the room was beautiful. A bright room colored room with a terrace that we could sit out on perfect!!! Shortly after my confirmation I received a call from the Mansion thanking me for booking, asking if I was joining for dinner and when I would be arriving. I thought this was GREAT. The woman on the phone was polite, professional and I was excited about our stay. As we headed to the Mansion I got a call from another person. This person told me unfortunately the room I booked through Expedia was taken already but they had another room that I could stay in and it was bigger but more money. The explanation was that while someone was on the phone booking the room that I booked I placed the reservation at the same time. I don't think soo... When we arrived we were greeted and walked up to our room which was not bright and cheery. It was hot, dark and had a wet floor next to the bed. There also was no balcony. These rooms generally run between $500-$900 they include a resort fee. This is NOT a resort. There is not a pool or any other services that would justify this fee. So here is the scoop. It's over priced and not worth it. Also they next asked me how my stay was...and they should remember, you never know who your guests are...
Got a tour and history if the Mansion by the owner, Brian Gates. Charming!
Well, the structure is superb. The price, high. A massage was scheduled by James, to be a surprise for my wife for Friday. When we came back Friday night, I was informed Saturday was her day. This was set up weeks in advance. We were busy Saturday. I am not sure what the Resort Fee of $ 340 was, but we only stayed to sleep. No pool, no gym, a nice fire pit and back deck. NOT A RESORT. A beautifully restored structure by the Amish. Oh, by the way, five nights turned into four nights. By the time Brian, (the owner) corrected it, I got to absorb the finance charge on my credit card. Good Luck...
If you are expecting to get any work done with internet for a $700 stay for one night, do not stay here. You will not even be able to open up your email from your room.
Charming... like a trip to Europe , with excellent staff.. friendly and kind.... a real treat!
We booked the spicer mansion for a last minute family getaway from NJ. It was such an enjoyable experience that I would highly recommend it for anyone coming to Mystic,CT. The service and food was delicious. The rooms were spacious and clean! Wine by the fire pit was a great way to end every night. I look forward to staying here again
Beautiful property, most hospitable staff. Greeted upon arrival by the owner and welcomed warmly. The entire stay was beyond expectations...
A real gem of a property with excellent service. In the future, we would love to stay and dine there and not just a drink and breakfast. I only wish they had a good selection of French brandies and maybe even a local one from Westford Distillery in Ashford, Connecticut.
The Spicer Mansion was a great find for us to stay at on a night that we went to the casino for a concert. It is filled with such Historical beauty- Captain Spicer would be proud of what it is today. Food and service were great and their hidden secret (my lips are zipped) was our favorite part. Booked again for the summer and really looking forward to visiting again.
