A hotel elegant in form and function
Elegant, stylish, and beautifully restored, the Blennerhassett well deserves its position among the Historic Hotels of America recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. That speaks to the quality of the building and grounds, but the hotel staff more than contribute their share to making a stay at the Blennerhassett to be the foundation for many pleasant memories. My visit to the hotel came on a Saturday in early August, and I was happily surprised to find my dinner on the patio included music by a jazz quartet whose tunes included old standards and versions of more recent popular songs. The whole package was elegant, and very restful. If there is a downside to my visit, it is that in my brief overnight stay I learned very little about the character of Parkersburg itself. I didn't see a developed downtown either on my way in or out of the city, though I understand it's not a small place. The Ohio River, so magical, is not far from the hotel, but access to it is obscured by various obstacles better crossed in a car than on foot. All the same, the Blennerhassett is large enough that discounted rooms are available. If you want a chance to stay at one of America's truly great hotels but can't pay the rates for other, more famous sites, you will find the Blennerhassett more than fills that role.

Our favorite stop in the Ohio valley
A welcome oasis of civility in the middle of the hurly burly of a long family car trip. Clean, comfortable, absolutely worth the extra $10 over the chains and the trip into Parkersburg, rather than staying on the interstate. Free excellent breakfast; Starbucks in house; lovely staff

Lovely heritage but pricey for what you get
The room was very comfortable. and the staff were helpful and attentive. The breakfast was pretty ordinary as they ran out of items and took quite a while to replenish. The hotel was very busy as there was a wedding and as a result there was a long wait for the patio seating. We sat and dined in the bar, which was perfectly fine. We feel like we paid top dollar for a somewhat less than top dollar experience.

Highly recommend the Blennerhasset Hotel
I really liked this hotel. It was not your average run of the mill type but had lots of charm and character. The food was out of this world.
