Fabulous!
Went for my husbands birthday - such a great price for dinner bed and breakfast 😁 check in was quick & easy - ask for the footpath map around the estate - only 5k but great for a walk before dinner (or run)! When we entered the room there was a little birthday cake with happy birthday written on the plate! The room was clean, bed super comfy, lovely bathroom - only tiny tip for room 121 is to move the wardrobe around to make it a little easier to get clothes in and out of ;) Dinner was delicious and I particularly loved the decoration of edible flowers 🌸 The staff (all quite young) were lovely - a couple of them kept doubling up on requests - but better that than no-one waiting on us at all 👍 The gardens are well maintained and obviously a beautiful place to sit for a drink in the sunshine! We decided on breakfast in bed as this doesn’t happen at home very often 😂 Would definitely go again - Thank You all Elvetham for making my husbands birthday an all round success 👏

Waste of money, wouldn’t stay here ever again
We visited to celebrate my partner’s sister’s birthday, so had 3 family rooms. We have a 8 year old daughter, but they put a cot in our room. I asked twice to get an extra fold bed, and they didn’t have a clue what to do. We all ended up sharing a bed on the first night, and by mid morning the next day, they still hadn’t taken the cot out and provided an extra bed. They said they didn’t have any. I then saw a cupboard open with 4 foldable beds, so I took one myself and put it in our room. No one at the hotel knew what they were doing. Their answer to every question was “let me get the manager”, or they just stare at you blankly. They said they were under-staffed, but that doesn’t excuse complete incompetence. On the Saturday night, there was a party downstairs. I have no issue with there being a party, but the music was so loud and the windows are so thin that you feel like you’re at the party in your room, so neither myself, my partner or our young daughter could sleep until after midnight. I complained downstairs and they decided that closing the windows in the party room would suffice. I asked why, knowing that we had booked a family room as a family and asked for extra beds, did they think it was a good idea to place us directly above an area where a party would be taking place. Rooms on the 2nd floor were quiet. Again, a shrug of the shoulders. No effort made to appease us. Awful place, which is a shame as the building and grounds are beautiful. Waste of money!

A hotel riding solely on its good looks and charm
This hotel is beautiful. That’s where the good bit ended for us. During dinner we were left waiting until most of the way through our starter for a drink. Side dish that was supposed to be Honey Roasted vegetables was par boiled and still hard in the middle. My wife ordered 2 different starters instead of starter and main as she’s not a big eater, they brought her the same starter for both courses. When I asked for another glass of wine, my currently half full glass was removed and topped up. My medium rare steak was well done and dreadful (we’d complained so much I didn’t have the heart to bring this up). Thankfully we were not charged for drinks or the side but we still had a £95 bill for food that was worse quality than a weatherspoons and service that was on par. Thank god our wedding anniversary was the day before and we were just using the hotel as a stopover on the way home from the airport. At one point it had become so comical I was convinced we were being pranked. We were also put in a double room, we’re both tall and I don’t like to sleep in a double bed, it wasn’t until we got home that I realised I had in fact booked a king. The hotel looks lovely and it is a perfect stop over between Gatwick and the south west, but I have honestly never had such terrible food at this price point. We would stay again as the accommodation is great for the price. We’ll just stop at the Burger King on the way, at least we’ll get more appropriately priced bad food.
