Great place to stay. Loved spending time in the hammock looking out over the lake. Incredible value for money. Friendly staff, adorable hostel dogs. Ok mattrasses.
Beautiful location right by the lake, friendly staff and the two rooms (Toliman and Atitlan) with private lake-view patios are just outstanding.
Really amazing place!
I was given a different room than what i booked & paid for and was told that it was still the same price when i asked for a refund for the difference. Expedia advertised that there’s free wifi but there is no wifi. It’s a lovely place to stat but wouldnt recommend if you are looking for a clean, neat, private room. Bedsheet was not the cleanest, more of warm shower than hot shower, room door and lock does not really work perfectly, you can still break through the windows. Windows do not lock or close perfectly.
Gorgeous property with a fun vibe. Good place to meet fellow travellers. The staff is mostly English speaking volunteers. Decent food, cute bar. Right near the ferry dock so it's easy to visit other towns on the lake (we liked San Marcos and San Juan and hated San Pedro). Two nights was enough but we honestly could have stayed a week and just relaxed. It's a bit pricier than other places, but I understand why. Worth it!
Right off the boat, it is right there after 10 steps. The view is amazing, and the food is great. All the staff members are so friendly and considerate, I didn't plan to stay here more than one night but I extended my stay. I first thought there is nothing to do at Santa Cruz (yes, it is true) so I thought about going to other villages, but it was not worth of moving around to different hotels. Just stay at one stop and make trips to other villages on the lake.
Around the room there were garbage, empty glass bottles. Somebody came to our deck in the middle of the night.
Lovely quiet gem of a spot!
Super chill. Nice getaway after 3 day trek. Staff very helpful and chill evening.
We stayed in a basic private room for four nights which was great, we even extended our stay as we didn't want to leave! The bed wasn't super comfortable, but it was fine for the price we payed. It really seems there are rooms to suit all budgets. La Iguana Perdida in general has a really nice atmosphere with lots of travelers coming and going with different stories. The hostel has lots of different areas to either chill out, play pool or socialize - there is even a movie room! It was really nice not having wifi and switching off for a few days, but it's great that guests are able to use comupters free of charge if you need to check emails, keep in touch with family or book something ect. The family dinners were really nice and the food was tasty, good value as you can help yourself to and it's a great way to meet people too. There are also a couple of local restaurants nearby, which are nice and cheap if you are on a budget. Santa Cruz in general is a really nice place to relax and swim in the lake, there are also lots of different activities you can organise through the hostel if you wish (diving, kayaking, paddle boarding) but the highlight for us was the amazing hikes you can do for free from the hostel, to other towns with the most stunning views of the lake. We were tossing up between La Iguana and Free Cerveza and we were very happy with our choice:) Would recommend La Iguana Peridida for anyone who wants to chill out and enjoy the beauty of Santa Cruz!
