Comfortable bed and hot shower. Simple hotel with a decent breakfast and convenient to downtown and public transit. The area is safer during the day. At night, you should use a relaxing or Uber. During the day, it is easy to take metro and bus.

The location is excellent for public transport and for those wanting to be near the city center. Metro República is two and 1/2 blocks away. The room was spacious, bed comfortable and the water pressure was excellent. I had a room facing praça Júlio Mesquita. It had a balcony, which I loved but many drug users frequent the area during the late night and early morning hours and create street noise that awakened me often during the night. During the day, the area seems safe and convenient but late at night one should use caution. Overall, I enjoyed my stay.

Hotel not comfortable at all. Breakfast really bad. Rooms were stinking cigarette really bad.

Janky hotel in a janky looking neighborhood.
Arrived on site, front door has to be open by the front desk, which says a lot about the area already. No staff spoke any English or Spanish so any knowledge of the area is reserved for Portugese speakers. Wifi connection was none existent in the room.

Ok for the price
the hotel itself is clean and secure but the area outside is quite filthy and there are quite a few peopke sleeping rough. However, I personally didn't feel unsafe but you do need to be extra alert. The room was fine and had a fridge and a small balcony, which was a plus. Breakfast was judt average with few choices. When I checked in, I was asked to pay for the room but I knew it was already paid via hotels.com so showed the receptionist the receipt. Surely, they should know and this could be seen as trying to double charge a customer.
