Love hate guesthouse
We had a love/hate relationship & stay with Lisbon story guesthouse - which is exactly that - a guesthouse or hostel type accommodation and definitely cannot be classed as a hotel (and thus shouldn't really be listed on hotels.com either so be warned if your looking for hotel creature comforts) What turned around an initial disappointment with the quality of the place; was friendly and helpful staff who are always available, a great central location for touring Lisbon, excellent access to public transport (for both train, metro, bus and taxis) and good local restaurants, takeaways and convinence stores on the doorstep. Breakdown of our stay and the apartment - Our 2-bed 1st floor apartment was clean but very basic. As their website will tell you - if your expecting a place with a TV, a lift, or A/C - look on as you won't get any here. We Found this hard as we have a 2 year old so getting a pram up and down and entertainment was tough going - you will need games and an iPad if you have kids - Living room again basic with bare white wash walls. Furniture included a large dining table, coffee table and 4-seater lounger sofa. A few books given. Balcony has a great view for people watching with new doors and windows - Bedrooms were basic with no wardrobe, safe or bed side cabinets. Some old chests included but we didn't feel like putting our clothes in them! - Kitchen area was small with the basics - Bathroom ok - but NO lock on the door!!!

Great place to stay
It was the best stay of our trip. This guesthouse is really a home away from home. The rooms are spacious and one of a kind. The staff was incredible and the location was perfect. Highly recommend it. Sharing a restroom was never a problem.

Location ONLY
The location of this place is great. The room which I requested was with an attached bath but you could not stand up straight in majority of the room. Poor ventilation and mediocre service. The redeeming quality was the location.

Not Good Value
Basic hotel. 65 steep and narrow stairs up to our room! No elevator/lift. Stayed 5 nights. No maid service to our room during that period. Made our own beds, got our own supplies, e.g.. toilet roll, soap, from reception. Not good. Room had a very low ceiling at one end.... like 1m. Basic furnishings as no room for anything other than a bed. Disappointing. WiFi was free and good. Hotel is very centrally located just off Rossio Plaza and close by the National Theatre. Nice cold breakfast but not until 08:30h so if you want to beat the tourist rush you have to miss breakfast. However, there is a kitchen with available supplies so if you want to boil an egg, you can. Multilingual reception staff were nice, friendly and helpful. Poorest value hotel that we've stayed at in Europe in years. Would not stay here again or recommend it to anyone with mobility issues!
