The hotel was fine, but we had the most awkward check-in that we have had in our 14 month European road trip. When we checked in we asked the receptionist Rita, what would be the best way to see the main attraction in Zermatt, the Matterhorn, and she literally said she didn’t understand why people would come there just to see a mountain! After my husband and I looked at each other, we found ourselves in a semi debate with her about why the Matterhorn is important to come see. We sited the example of”it’s like going to Rome and not seeing the Coliseum”. Rita said “that’s different, the coliseum is a building that you can go into.” After several more minutes of crazy conversation, we just gave up and asked, well if we want to see the Matterhorn tomorrow, what would we need. She finally gave us some options. As we were leaving to go up to our room, we asked her about restaurant options and she was very vague. Only said there are a lot of good restaurants but make sure they take credit cards. After we ate, we came back to hotel and told her we had a good meal. We told her where we ate and she said that was a great restaurant in fact her aunt works there!! I don’t know why she didn’t suggest this when we asked?! That night, the fire alarm went off in the hotel and we all had to go downstairs for about 30 minutes. It took them that long to get someone there to turn off the alarm. The next day Rita wasn’t at reception and the lady was very nice and helpful. We saw the Matterhorn 👍
