Worst hotel experience ever
Whole hostel smells terrible. Lobby, Kitchen, Hallway to Bedroom, Bedroom. Wife got bites from bed bugs and Khaosan refused to give us a refund. Even though they allowed us to change rooms, I saw them trying to give the same bed bug room to another couple the next day! Disgusting place and I refuse to go back. On the otherhand, I stayed at Khaosan Asakusa and Khaosan Namba - those 2 were fine.

Probably the second worst hostel I've stayed at
The only good thing about this hostel is the location. Its 20 minutes away from the trainstation, what isn't a problem. Its also right next to main shopping center what is a plus. But like I said that is the only good thing. As soon as you get there they make you pay ¥600 damage tax. So they immediately assume you are some kind of asshole. When I got in my room there was now where to stick my large suitcase so I had sleep with it in my small bed (They give you only a small locker) Your bed only has one outlet, what faceing down and very loose. So any movement in your bed will cause your power cable to fall out. The worst thing about this hostel is the bathrooms. The showers have mold everywhere. Also there is only one shower on each floor, what is 5. What wouldn't be a problem if this was small hostel with a small amount of guests, which its not.I had to wake up extremely early to use. Over all I was eager to leave this place.

2 Nights stay in 4-bed Private room
1.The location was superb. 2 mins to nearest bus & train station. 5 mins walk to Gion district. Nearby shopping districts and malls. 2. The staffs were really friendly and made us feel welcomed (speaks good English too) .They provided us with guides and tips to go around kyoto (also pointed out the available halal restaurants nearby for Muslims). Do ask them if you ever need assistance. 3. The room and facilities are exactly as described in the pictures. Although the wifi may be poor in certain rooms. You can enter and leave the Guesthouse at anytime after check in. 4. There are lots of toilets and are available on every floors. 5. Luggage storage is available at the lobby but can also be brought into rooms (recommended for private rooms) Overall we had great time in Kyoto having a nice place to return to after a long day. It is the perfect place to stay if you're looking for cheap but comfortable place to stay in Kyoto. Definitely will come here again one day.

Best location with great price
Location was perfect. Down the street from a lot of shops and about 15 from the market. 12 minute walk to get the station that goes to Kyoto station. 5 and 7 minutes to two other subway stations. We had a private room with a bunk bed, which had a Decent amount of space for a Japanese room. Nice lounge area. Huge rooftop! Nice pillows (memory foam). Bathrooms could be updated; some of the doors to toilets didn’t close/lock correctly. Shower and bathrooms were clean. Most of the staff were really nice. For the price we paid, I think it was a steal.

Great budget guest house near teramachi road
Khaosan guest house has great position for the location, which is near teramachi shopping area. The condition of guest house is fair for us, however it needs some improvement regarding the room facilities. Recommended for budget stay.

Good 6.0
This is just a hostel which has some single rooms. You have to make your own bed and towels are for hire. The room had an unpleasant smell. Otherwise clean and well-located.

The only place for me in Kyoto (at least till now)
The room is tiny yet comfortable and clean indeed. Not smelly at all which may happen in a 3 or 4 star hotels. I spent three nights at the 4/F common room with my friends, over dinner and beer! Anyone who is not looking for a hotel with other facilities and accept sharing space with others, Khaosan Guesthouse is definitely a good place.
