6/10 Good
19 June 2022
Poor value. But that’s the Lakes.
The positives -
The views and the location. Plenty of walk options, Derwentwater was close. The member of staff who checked us in was very friendly. The bathroom was lovely, with a big mirror and a strong shower (although it was slow to warm up). The porridge at breakfast was good and we saw a deer stroll through the grounds as we ate. The lounge was nice too and had board games.
The negatives. -
The condition of the room wasn’t great. There were a fair few marks on the walls.
The cleanliness was questionable. The window frames were in need a good clean when I opened the windows. There was hair stuck to the wall opposite the mirror, presumably strays from a previous guest blow drying and brushing their hair.
The bed wasn’t particularly comfortable and the pillows need replaced.
We ordered apple juice for breakfast and were served orange (after pre-ordering online). We figured this was my mistake but then we overheard the same thing happen to another guest a few minutes later which seemed a bit too coincidental.
Overall, I wasn’t massively impressed. It wasn’t bad. I’d possibly stay again if I returned to the Lakes. The high demand in the Lake District seems to drive high prices and you have to just accept it. This seemed the best value when we were booking with one of the highest review scores on here. I’m glad I didn’t go somewhere with a much lower score.
