Excellent hotel, but no A/C, no elevators
The Ayrlington is in a historic building that has been meticulously renovated and is impeccably maintained. It's within walking distance across either of two bridges over the Avon River to the attractions in central Bath. The twin room we stayed in was beautifully appointed, with magnificent plaster medallions and moldings, and lush carpeting and curtains. The room was spacious and comfortable, and included a high-quality flat-screen TV with good channel selection. Included breakfast offered individually cooked options, plus a few buffet items. Service was top-notch in all respects. Behind the hotel is a beautifully kept garden, and behind that is a rugby pitch fronting on the Avon River. The first downside of the Ayrlington is that, because it is a historic building, local regulations apparently don't permit installation of air conditioning or elevators. (The desk clerk cheerfully bounded up the stairs with our suitcases for us.) The twin room we reserved is on the road side of the hotel, which is fairly loud, even with the excellent sound-reducing windows that have been installed. And in any event, without air conditioning even in late May we needed to open a window for ventilation. (Our solution, which worked well enough, was to open the bathroom window instead of the bedroom windows, and to use the earplugs offered by the desk clerk.) A second downside was that the mattresses in our room (the Siena) were very soft and saggy.

Lovely Hotel and gardens
Room was lovely with nice garden view at the back. Breakfast very refined and enjoyable. Gardens are lovely.and well tendered. Parking was ample. Location is good if you plan a walk into the centre of Bath. Our only complaint was that due to the sunny weather, our room was stiflingly hot : maybe the hotel should invest in air conditioning or screens to prevent the heat build up during the day.

A last minute decision to travel and a hurried search for a hotel. What a fantastic choice. The room was superb, spacious, comfortable, stylish and with superb views over the grounds behind and a wonderful view of the sunset (Empire Room). Again at the last minute, we decided to stay another night, but we could not stay in the room we were in, so we were efficiently relocated. The second room was quite different to the first, but just as good, but this time with a different view, this time of the sun rise. Staff were great and very accommodating of our "last minute" planning. The food was good and hearty. Would I stay again? Yes - without doubt.

Great Weekend Break in Bath.
Last minute booking for my wife and I. Hotel was perfect for a romantic weekend away. The staff, especially Jonny were attentive and helpful. Would recommend this hotel if you want a relaxing break in a beautiful Georgian house.
