While we loving visiting Amsterdam (4th trip) we much prefer to stay in Haarlem as a more relaxing area. For us this is more like coming home since we are very familiar with the area. The hotel is in a very convenient area with nice restaurants. After a busy day of sightseeing in Amsterdam or the surrounding area, great place to return.

good point is location near center. Breakfast was good. Beds were 2 star quality. Staff does not greet you when you arrive, as their long checkin process causes them to ignore those waiting Would have been nice to offer cold water during wait. Paid more for this hotel than beautiful a/c hotels in Amsterdam and The Hague. Will not stay here again.

Our bathroom smelled funny. Our room was right on the square, which is great, but it was Friday night and during the heat wave, so we listened to the partying on the square until 1am. The staff were really heplful and very nice, the location was fantastic.

The Hotels.com room advertisement for this hotel promised city views and stated the room had a separate seating area. The room we were given faced a large brick wall with a tarpaulin covering the roof below. Not only were there no views but there was no separate seating area either. The room looked old and tired and except for the bathroom was in need of renovation. Staff were generally unfriendly, would not let us check in even 15 minutes before the 3.00pm check in time and were demanding that the expensive 20 Euro City Tax be paid at the time of check in.

There are so many shops in close proximity to the hotel - groceries, clothing, museums, cathedrals, a windmill, Corrie Ten Boom house, Apple store, and wide range of restaurants! The walk to the Haarlem Train Station was pleasant and provided access to anywhere else we wanted to go.
