Pleasant stay
I had a pleasant stay with my family in Hotel Listel for 6 nights. The staff are really nice and will go out of their way to help their guests. Location is good, it's around 10-min walk to two subway stations. It is also close to Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, where you can do sakura viewing in spring. Breakfast buffet is ok - we particularly loved that they serve fish every day.

Very basic hotel with not much amenities.
Hotel was very basic. The cleanliness was good but the room was a bit small. While the floor space is bigger, a lot of space is wasted with the long tables on the side. The pillow was also very old and flat which does not help support the head. When requested for an extra pillow, was denied any. Also the first hotel in Japan that I have stayed in to not have umbrellas for rental and sold the umbrellas more expensive than the umbrellas one block away. A tad far from the stations and the roads can be very dark at night. Luckily it is opposite a 7-11 which helps with getting necessities. The hotel also does not provide free bottled water so guest are expected to purchase them from the counter.

Standards of cleaning needs to be improve, the standard of cleaning had gone done thru the years as specially under bed and the toilets. Carpet is getting stain marks which are not remove. Possibly due to out source cleaning contractor that are chosen due to cheap pricing. Rates are also going up as compared to 2013. Maybe due to returning of bookings from traditional visitors from China. Every thing being the same as before I think this hotel is no longer value for money. Kok Kee Soon

Convenient quiet location
I used to live in Tokyo but now that I visit every few years I always stay at the Hotel Listel because of the price and location. Rooms are small Japanese businessman style rooms, so if you are looking for a hotel with accommodations similar to a western style hotel, definitely not for you. Beds are comfortable and Japanese uni-bath (shower and deeper tub together). If you want a reasonably priced, clean room with convenient location, this might be good for you. About a 15 minute walk from Shinjuku station.
