Great Place
Wonderful family-owned place that looks and feels like Germany. We had several wonderful meals at the restaurant in addition to an incredible Christmas Eve dinner event complete with piano and a Christmas sing along. The location can not be beat.

Rothenberg Stay
The front desk had a hard time finding our reservation - she found it in "Another" book? There was no assistance with our bags. We did not know how to unlock the door to our room which was down a dark corridor, so one of us had to go back downstairs to get assistance. In Germany you turn the key to the left! It might have been helpful to know before went went to our room. It was a large enough room but very outdated. The beds were very uncomfortable. The shower was complicated as well! We made do, and upon going out to tour the city, we mentioned it to the clerk on duty and he told us how to use it...I commented that it would have been good to know when we checked in, and he responded that "now you know"! Just seemed like we weren't really welcomed and there was a lack of courtesy. Breakfast was included and it was OK, they did offer eggs cooked to order. Coffee and tea other usual European items were adequate.

We chose this hotel as it was 4 star rated, had excellent reviews on Expedia, had air conditioning and parking where many hotels in the town do not meet these criteria. Sadly, the hotel was disappointing in many ways. Being an old building, it is high maintenance, but it clearly does not receive what it needs. After out stay, we detailed all the many areas that needed improvement to the Management, but they showed no measurable concern, and seem to hold a 'take it or leave it' attitude. Of particular concern were: A/C that would not operate when the outside temperature was above 15 deg C (regardless of the room temperature). 'Open a window' was the suggestion. The mattress on the bed was old and sagged. The stair carpet was threadbare, and the paintwork on the handrail damaged and shabby. The restaurant was only average in both choice and quality, and closes the same night as many others hence guests needs are not at the fore. Many other small things were simply not to the standard we would have expected in a hotel of this level and price. Overall, a below par experience, made worse by the indifferent attitude of the Management.
