The room was clean but average for the price they charge. The breakfast was included in the price but unfortunately it was not available for 3 days. The manager was not even aware that for 3 days the doors was locked for the breakfast area and no one was there for the service. Their approach to the matter was unprofesional with not even an apologie. We needed to check out early in the morning to catch our flight and again no one was at the property to hand the keys. We were expected a better service for the total we paid.

Like Faulty Towers but less comical

There was an issue with payment as the amount had already been taken out of my account. I was then interrupted by a knock on the door without warning with a telephone to speak with, although the payment had been taken by the hotel. The room was fine but the bathroom was freezing and full of black mould. The shower head also needed cleaning as was full of limescale which wasn't wonderful. The bed was really hard as well. The breakfast service, poor lady. If all the rooms came with breakfast then more than one member of staff should be put on to service. It was really terrible, the quality of the breakfast wasn't great but at this point i couldn't leave quick enough and I was feeling just awful for the lady doing breakfast. Get what you pay for i suppose but i would reccomend that you skip breakfast.

    Never again!

Booked the last room on and found the room was formerly the maintenance / junk / store room. As a result it was very primitive and looked nothing like the photos on website. Although the room was not as described the staff member on duty went out of her way to accommodate us as items like towels, were missing in the room. The room on their website stated it was finished to a very high standard - this was not the case at all. Also states there should have been a hairdryer and a full English breakfast but both were not the case. Very disappointed in the whole experience. They blamed for room allocation. Why advertise 10 rooms when really only 9 are available?

FAWLTY TOWERS UP NORTH. Booked double room. Given twin. Was told fully booked... showed my confirmation of a DOUBLE ROOM. No compensatory measures. Had to do. Had dinner reservations HOWEVER there was a measly 3 meals available... ate elsewhere. Voicemail on my phone from the woman at The Black Bull Inn saying she had moved us to a double room and we couldn't go back onto the room for which we had keys for, containing our luggage and personal toiletries. SHE HAD MOVED OUR LUGGAGE WITHOUT ASKING US. Very unprofessional. Breakfast was not available until 08:15... Bran cereals, bananas, yoghurt and packaged croissants were on offer, but no cooked breakfast. Avoid. This was Fawlty Towers, but worse. Other guests experienced similar problems, the lad on the bar didn't know what brandy was, nor did he know about steaks.

Lovely staff but poorly managed: - Twin beds when we ordered double - Didn't have the wine they initially offered - Hand written 'menue' (sic) with only 7 main courses - The main course I ordered was supposedly no longer available but did in fact turn up albeit missing a main ingredient. - Breakfast chef did not turn in so no 'full English' - Final bill excluded our dinner from the previous night (we corrected). Otherwise, the rooms were clean and the pub has a decent atmosphere. The village (Escrick) is chocolate-box pretty (but quiet).

Newly refurbished, very smart, bright and clean with an interesting décor. Food choice very good and tasty. Bedrooms adequate but beds (twin Room 10) very comfy. Staff very friendly. The abattoir next door begins work at 5.0am, so with the windows open we were disturbed until the lorries left.

Weather was warm, a simple fan would have made a world of difference in the comfort in the room at night.

Basic and expensive for what it is

Basic accommodation in a very lovely residential area. Paper thin walls, and extremely warm rooms without aircon or even a fan (visited during the heatwave). £80 per night is an unrealistic and unwarranted amount to pay considering what is on offer. This is just a pub B&B with no facilities and very poor internet connection.
