This probably is poorly kept and dirty. I was shocked to see insects everywhere, dirty walls and carpet, and damaged furniture and bed with exposed staples. Staying here may leave you with an infection of some sort.

The picture in the listing is not where i was sent. Turns out to be a 2 star hotel. Never saw a face and no one picks up the phone.

Amazing night in the middle of Volcano. The room was comfortable and clean as well as the bathroom. The check in and out was easy to do it, they give you all the instructions before arriving. I’ll recommend this place. Keep it up!

Perfect location to explore the geology of Hawai'i. Old 1912 home full of personality. Kitchen has an awesome gas stove. Lots of room in common areas - that anyone would complain about this place is baffling.

Very private and quiet, not much service if it had been needed.

Location: Very convenient access to Volcanoes National Park. In a residential area that overall felt safe; however, the large warning signs in several places on the property warning about parking at your own risk and the house next door that looked like it had a broken window and abandoned cars made it feel otherwise (accidentally turned into the wrong driveway). I did not encounter a single person during my stay which also felt strange. Accommodation: Volcano Hale is an older multi-story house with multiple rooms for rent and shared bathrooms. It is generally clean and well maintained with access to a spacious kitchen; some bathrooms have been renovated and others have not. There is a musty smell to the entire house that made me concerned for either mothballs or fungus, and the basement room where I stayed was quite cold at night. Service: After-hours check-in at the main location (marked as Volcano Hale-Chalet Kilauea Collection on Google Maps) consisted of picking up keys and instructions on getting to the actual location of Volcano Hale, which is a few blocks away (marked as Volcano Bed & Breakfast on Google Maps). While it would have been useful to know ahead of time that the check-in location was not the location of the stay, the instructions were otherwise very detailed and the host is very responsive to questions. Overall: Reasonable facilities for the price point, though if I were to return I would opt to pay slightly more for better accommodations.

Volcano Hale is an older home, but is well-maintained, spacious, and comfortable. Our room had a king bed, lots of pillows, crisp sheets, large closet, de-humidifier and heater (for the damp climate). There is a bathroom on each floor, which is shared with one or two other rooms. The bathroom has a generous supply of clean, fluffy towels and toiletries. The kitchen has a cooktop, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and refrigerator. Since buying food or eating out is so expensive in this area, the kitchen is a big plus!
