Tirena Sunny Hotel by Valamar

This hotel was clean, lovely swimming pool and location great for walking to Lapad promenade along a costal walk and easy bus access onto Dubrovnik old town.

The room was very dated and worn out in its decoration. The A/C was working, although to very little use, as the airflow was limited and no cold air coming out. The balcony was also below standard as it was dirty and with plastic furniture. There was also a hornets nest in the corner, which was a little bit discomforting. We didn't use the hotels other facilities as we were only there for one night, but the breakfast was OK and the personnel very friendly. All in all not the most pleasant experience for 150 euros per night.

The property was only classed as three stars so we weren’t expecting too much. But we were pleasantly surprised. It was spotless the staff were very helpful and friendly. The pool and sunbeds were great. No rushing to get a sunbed in the morning. There was loads and lots of space to put them in. Towels were supplyed and you could change them as often as you wanted. The breakfast was buffet style and was really good with an amazing choice.

It was a very pleasant and not noisy situation. Easy to find our way around.

Amazing holiday, beautiful pool, breakfast and location

Absolutely excellent. The Staff were fantastic throughout, concierge beyond helpful, really went extra mile. Plenty food choice albeit some spice would have been welcome but overall very good. Swimming pool, beach proximity, nightly music etc, all very good. Bus stop to old town maybe 15 mins journey and bus stop is at hotel. The adjoining Valamar Hotels also had fantastic pools & Cafe etc. A really good Hotel by Med/Adriatic standards. Would definately stay again....

Food was excellent. Staff friendly and very efficient. We specifically paid extra for a room with a balcony and park/mountain view. Room we were initially given looked out onto the roof of other parts of hotel! Asked for another room view a proper view. Were given 3 other rooms to choose from and only one of those had a partial view of the mountains which we finally excepted. Overall hotel buildings look a bit old fashioned in appearance, Could do with 'Livening Up' a bit. Pool area and sunbeds good. Only drinks allowed with dinner have to be paid for. Don't know why all drinks at dinner have to be purchased and the hotel can't allow for a glass of tap water with dinner when drinks are readily available free with breakfast! Overall, a good stay for the price. Definitely in the 3 star bracket though.

We just checked into Tirena Hotel and it's a terrible hotel with nothing like what is written in the reviews. The room is too small and the AC is too loud. The status of the hygiene is bad. There were flies in the room and it smells like sewege! We are staying in Dubrovnik for ten days and there is no way we can stay here another day. We arrived late at night otherwise we would have been able to look for another hotel. I am writing to request a total refund to the payment so I can look for another decent place to stay at. My son is competing at a tournament and I want to provide him with a comfortable and clean place to stay at and this place is far from that. Awaiting your response. Ramez

Valamar hotels have a nice and quiet compound. Very easy transport links and close to Gruz bus station if you want to take coaches out of the city or get the shuttle bus to the airport.

Our check in experience was excellent. We were escorted to our room with the luggage (room 108) and immediately noticed that the room smelled very musty. Note that this room is on the lowest level and is partially underground. We decided to stay in the room as it was only for 2 nights. But then when we checked the in-room safe, the front door was completely missing. We went to the front desk and informed them of the problems and asked if there was another room. We were told, the hotel was sold out. However, they did offer us the use of a safety box behind the desk that we could access anytime. We appreciated this offer, and the rest of the hotel was fine including staff and food services, but unfortunately the broken in-room safe and musty room left us with a bad impression.
