Good 6.0
Great hotel and the setting is ideal for some sightseeing if you wanted to see the shrines and temples which are all nearby. Hotel has three good restaurants and service is impeccable as you would expect in Japan. Concierge is fantastic - professional and helpful. However the hotel is expensive, not as eye watering as the four seasons however.

Exceptional 10.0
Lovely hotel, great staff and service
Lovely hotel located in a great area for sightseeing, shopping, and restaurants. Staff is fantastic - always very helpful and accommodating. Ate at 2 of the 3 restaurants in the hotel - a bit pricey, but food was delicious and service was outstanding. Worth the money. My only complaint is the lack USB ports in the room - plenty of power outlets, but USB ports would have been more convenient.

Great hotel
Everything about staying at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto was excellent. The staff was so kind, helpful and even sent my husband a birthday card and chocolates to our room. The location was good to get around to all the sights.

Very good 8.0
Fine hotel not luxurious
The hotel is fairly spartan by US Hyatt Regency standards but more typical of what you find in Japan. The room was certainly comfortable even with a firm bed. I did not mind the location and usually took taxis which ran about $10 from hotel to the center. The price was certainly right but don’t think you’re staying at a true luxury property.

Terrible!
One of the worst hotels in Japan. Had windows facing a wall, so minimal view. Noisy corridor. Morning buffet restaurant got full and asked us to go other venue. We refused and was waiting outside and saw other Japanese guests getting in! Location not great either. Avoid if you can.
