Great location. Shame about the hotel.
Most of the dpuble glazed windows had failed and were dirty and covered with seagull poo. There was no parking at all, so we had to park over the road in an overnight council parking site. Not vegan friendly diners, but okay for breakfast, with restaurants manager being very helpful. Air of neglect throughout the whole building, which was a shame for such a prestigious position.

4/10 Fair

Not so good, bedding and towels clean but everything else not. Basic, rowdy, chaotic. Not sure what was happening but quite a heavy police presence- makes you a little nervous. Pleased we were only there for one night. Wouldn’t recommend.

Solo traveller
I have stayed at The Grand Burstin on a number of occasions but this was the first time on my own. The first room i was given was in the basement part on the other side of the hotel which made me feel quite isolated especially as i was on my own. I went to reception and explained this, they were very helpful and moved me to the main hotel with no hesitation or trouble. Yes the hotel is dated but i have always had a good experience when staying there.

8/10 Very good

Folkstone short stay
The location is perfect and you have everything you need a short distance away plus amazing views. We had a sea view room which was good, bed was uncomfortable and breakfast wasnt really that nice but for the cheap prices for the room you cant complain really. Bar prices was quite expensive and found at night the same round of drinks seem to increase with price each time. Other than that had a good holiday. Would stay at the hotel again i would just maybe eat at the harbour or have drinks locally.

8/10 Very good

Very busy, friendly staff and a good breakfast. My room was, unfortunately, semi basement with a container on the ground floor so next to no natural light. The space outside the window was full of rubbish and home to rats, so I wars unable to have the windows open.

Best location in Folkestone
I have very mixed feeling about my stay in the Grand Burstin. In the first instance it was overall a pleasant stay. It s not a hotel that I would normally stay in but if you are considering staying in Folkestone then I would say it should be the first option. I was given a room in the Victorian building with the back to the card park and facing the cliffs. So no a sea view. But this was ok apart from the seagulls which seem to sleep on the ledges of the hotels. Regarding the room, it was to a higher standard than I expected. However there was only a single pillow and the mattress wasn't secured so that it kept slipping leaving a gap with the headboard allowing the pillow to fall. I didn't have a relaxing sleep. This was a dissappointment for me. The strangest thing I encountered was the number of dogs in the hotel. I didn't expect this. But on three occasions three dogs were aggressive to smaller dogs and tried to attack them. You only get access to the room after 4pm but it is possible to check in from 11am onwards. However the hotel isn't really geared up to storing luggage for the day. The impression you get is that they would prefer not to do this. But they are missing an opportunity to provide a chargeable service for storing luggage. The hotel has an ideal location for this. Finally the reception desk was constantly busy with a queue so it was not approachable.I can't say if they were helpful with my enquiry as I didn't get a chance to ask.

Needs some attention and better security
The food in the Victorian restaurant was delicious and if there was nothing there you liked you could ask for something specific, for instance nuggets and chips for a child. The room was reasonably clean although the furniture was tatty and the sheet didn’t fit the bed, so wasn’t tucked under the mattress. I lost count of how many times the lifts broke down, even resulting in people getting stuck in them and the fire brigade being called. Some of this may have been because people took no notice of the signs limiting them to carrying 5 guests at a time. In the ballroom, the entertainment was good but there was no security or staff during the final act on Sunday (Just Ash), so when a drunk guest got out of hand there was no one to help Ash to get rid of the man causing a problem and interfering with the show by taking the mic off Ash and harassing his wife, who was in the audience. I hope he put in a complaint about this.
