Lovely hotel - but no morning coffee in room!
We loved staying at this hotel - it has a great vibe and an amazing smell. The pool was lovely, as was the sauna however, the steam room was not working when we were there. The gym was great too. The bed itself was comfortable however, the pillows that came with the bed were not and for that reason, we didn't get the best night's sleep that we had wanted. Staff are helpful and friendly. We stayed over New Year's and as we were getting ready for NYE, the showers were cold and when I advised the front staff, they said it was because they were fully booked and so the hot water must have run out - not something I would expect from a four star rated hotel. This is rated as a four star hotel however, there are NO facilities in the room for making tea and coffee and this was a big downside for us! The reception is not open 24/7 and the restaurant isn't either and is only open from 7am and we are early risers, so we could not get a coffee before 7am and we were charged for it each morning. It's an expensive, four star hotel and to not get a free coffee each morning was a downside and for this reason, I would not stay there again. I would always have expected a four star hotel to have provided at least the means of making a coffee in the room in the morning.

We had a great experience, the staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very nice with good food and atmosphere. It was in a neighborhood rather than downtown with great cafes in walking distance. If you don’t mind a 15 minute cab ride to get to the heart of Rome, you’ll love this niche, boutique hotel!

4/10 Fair

I was eligible for a VIP Orbitz/Expedia upgrade, but the front desk lied saying they were fully booked. I have screenshots showing many rooms were available during my stay. These hotel decisions not to honor their Orbitz/Expedia agreements are very short-sighted and only hurt the reputation of the hotel. The hotel will likely lose its VIP designation due to such unethical practices.

Perfect stay
This hotel is perfect : Front desk staff , restaurant staff and housekeeping staff are friendly, helpful and accommodating . The hotel , from the entrance to the rooms are so clean ; beds and linens are clean , bed matresses and pillows are comfortable , even the sofa bed was comfortable. Towels are huge and very clean. The location is close to Cipro train station , Vatican is the next stop. From hotel to the Vatican is only about 20 minutes walk ( my normal pace, not a brisk walk ). Breakfast is the best ! Overall, this is a perfect hotel for normal income travellers . I would stay in this hotel again ifi get the chance to travel to Rome, and i would recommend this to my family and friends.

Mama Shelter is in a great location. It’s near a metro stop and walking distance to Vatican Museums. If you want to stay away from pack of tourist but not too far from center city, I recommend this hotel.
