Opphold i historisk hotellkompleks.

Old World island charm
This is a hidden gem...charming in an old world, bygone day way. Absolutely perfect for me - who deplores the hipster hype and vibe. Super private. I had the grotto pool to myself both days. Grounds are beautifully maintained with wonderful hidden enclaves. Great location near Floating Bridge. Breakfast was good, not great (but free). Staff was hit or miss...most not overly friendly, but competent. Reasonable drink prices and dinner specials. They advertise a free shuttle to sister hotel's private beach. But fail to mention it is 45 min away and shuttle runs once. You are stuck on the north end of the island (with nothing to do except tiny and rocky beach and very limited food choices) for 5 hrs. Room was large with private courtyard that could use a few potted plants, furnished with antiques and huge 4 poster bed. Some reviews have said it could use a refresh. I disagree. I loved the 19th century island village feel of the place. If quiet, private is what you like, this is perfect!!

A return visit for us. Staff are very gracious and helpful and the hotel location is excellent. The room was kept clean but it seems the property is sliding downwards. We had a great deck but didn’t use because never cleaned of bird droppings on tables, etc. Also had an iguana who liked to hang out in the tree above the deck and have his bathroom breaks on our deck. We do not blame this on the hotel.

Small town look alike hotel
Customer service is really good, people who work there are very very attentive and always looking for ways to help you! The hotel is very nice and big, you feel like you are walking in a small old style town, with statues and very nice art decorations. My room was about 5-7 min walk from where you can park the car. I didn't like that the floor is made out of small rocks, so carrying the bags could be difficult because you can't roll them. The room had a very small, old-dated tv (most of the time it didn't work), other than that the room was nice, clean, towels smell sooooo good, and they clean and organized the room daily! The whole "little town" hotel had wifi, it was awesome! I didn't use the pool but it looked clean at all times. Breakfast is a buffet with a lot of options, different types of bread (slides, croissant, pancakes, etc), butter, peanut butter, cream cheese, jam, honey. Eggs (scramble, poche, boiled), bacon, ham, cheese, fruit, yogurt, cereal, salads (tuna salad), orange juice, coffee, chocolate, milk, parfait. The location of the hotel is great, you are 5 min walking distance to the floating bridge, and fort.

Good Value
For the price this place is a good option.

Old hotel, needs updating badly
Old hotel, needs better maintenance and updating badly. Air conditioning is old and noisy, bedrooms need new painting, mattress is old and uncomfortable. Hotel has seen better days, but the price you pay is not worth what you get. The only two things I liked about this hotel were the location and breakfast.

Broke down hotel
The property is not well maintained. Stairs, balconey, and rails in desparate need of repair. Bathroom in deparate need of remodeling and the tub/ shower unsafe for older adults.

TLC needed
Sadly, this gem of a hotel/spa is in the process of losing its spirit, there’s very little passion on the owners side of this once lovely place. It is in dire need of TLC. The staff at the front desk are very polite, but not totally forthcoming with some important information, like when security locks the gate to the bridge. The entrance to the front desk from inside is not suitcase or wheelchair friendly at all due to the concrete stone steps. The breakfast buffet was nicely done, the usual continental style with fresh fruit etc. The room was clean, bed comfortable enough, but the bathroom required some renovations. The bathroom also had a large soaker tub which can be challenging to climb in or out of if your of short stature. The front pool was actually green in color and the landscaping is poorly maintained. Being close to Willemstad was great, but we also found it too noisy for a “spa”. It is nothing like the photos. To/from the airport via taxi $35-40 even without tip and depending on the driver.

Overall very nice experience. Hotel is unique and very interesting steeped in history. Rooms are large and amenities adequate. Hotel does need some tender, loving care. It is a bit run down and needs some minor to major repairs and looking after. Otherwise, fantastic staff, friendly and eager to help. Great location too.
