My favorite hotel in Chicago!
I absolutely loved this property. It is well staffed with friendly employees. The decorations and artwork are top-notch. The location is central to all the attractions, restaurants, and the riverwalk. The Fisk & Company restaurant and bar were also fantastic!

Superb small boutique experience in prime location
Fantastic location! Almost felt like a cozy, high-end condo in that after a long day of walking/biking/touring, we came home to a comfortable lobby and a glass of complimentary wine, and a front desk that recognized us with a smile; and then in the mornings, we'd take the elevator down alongside guests taking their dogs on a morning walk, make tea/coffee, read the complimentary NYT in the lobby, and then go back up to prepare for the day. Room tip: If you can spring for one of the corner suites, it's worth it - at first we had two standard rooms but they were a bit small and close to the elevator, so the front desk kindly upgraded us to the corner suite connecting with a standard double queen. It was like having our own apartment with a slice of river view. I'll also note that we are light sleepers, and had no trouble at Kimpton Monaco.

Poor 2.0
This hotel has the most unprofessional reception staff (day shift) I have recently encountered. We booked for a deluxe room with river view; first of, the hotel does not have front-on views of the river but rather peripheral views. We had a bad room but the evening manager was reasonable enough to switch us to a room with a better view when they had available rooms the next day; we were told to check with reception to switch around noon when the room would be available. When we went to check in with reception, the day receptionist was extremely inexperienced and far from well-performing. Still, he managed to get the day manager who switched us to the "better room". It had better views but was much smaller than the first room. We did not make any further requests and hardly spent time in the hotel room. At check-out, we were told there were mini bar charges on the room, which we had not used and not even bothered to check it. When we told the receptionist and the manager we had not used the minibar, they were incredibly unprofessional and even rude. They insisted the charges were from the day before and they had to clear with housekeeping. Housekeeping had given us a clean and supposedly cleared room the day before and obviously had not been back in the room since then until our check-out. The reception manager assured us she was not charging us but they did not give us a final invoice. I have returned home to find that my credit card has been charged for the minibar.

Hotel happiness!
I loved everything about the Kimpton Monaco. It beautifully designed spacious rooms. The moment the doorman greets you to the front fest staff, you know you are in caring hands whose mission is to make sure you have a wonderful stay.
