The week-end from Hell
Checked in Friday afternoon and there was scaffolding set up all over the front facade, that should have been an omen. Once inside found out that one of the two elevators was out of service. One small elevator for 16 floor hotel, wait times 15 minutes. Saturday morning left for the Nortwestern game at 8:30 am and returned around 3pm. After a lengthy wait got on the crowded elevator which proceeded to quit on the 4th floorAfter calling for help the doors opened and all got off and I proceeded to walk up to my room on the 12th floor. Got in the door to find that the room had not been made up. Got cleaned up and walked down the stairs to the hotel bar for a beer. Ordered a Lagunitas IPA and was informed they had run out. Switched to a Whiskey and while I was sipping it I witness a guy come into the bar with a small dog which promptly urinates on the floor The guy take a napkin and wipes it up and puts the napkin back on the table. This used to be a classy hotel but not anymore. They still charge as if it still is a 4 to 5 star hotel. The kicker is that the elevator has been out of service for over two weeks. I have stayed at this hotel several times over the past ten years, BUT NEVER AGAIN. Your money is better spend on the many classy hotels in Chicago.

Use the stairs!
I have stayed at this hotel before and it is a great hotel in a great location, however.... the hotel has 2 old elevators and one was not working. 17 floors on a busy weekend in Chicago with one elevator and there were a lot of angry guests! This was not the first time this has happened either. The hotel also has satellite tv and on this particular trip, the bad weather eliminated many of the channels. Had to find another location to watch the big game.

Good 6.0
The hotel was ok, just like that. There was Only 1 elevator at service and it was every slow to want up or down. Housekeeping has many opportunities, they leave the used glasses in the room

Check Elevator Maintenance Prior to Booking
Generally the hotel is great, however, this is my 2nd stay in the last several months and both times 1 of the 2 elevators was out. There is no service elevator either, so the 1 very small working elevator is also used by staff with rolling carts etc. when an elevator does show (sometimes 10+ minutes) it’s full and you have to wait more. I was on 7th floor and walked up and down the stairs too often to make it worth it.

Very good 8.0
The only reason I did not give top ratings was because one elevator was out of service (told by the staff it had been out for 3 weeks) and delays and stopping on every floor delayed everything! Otherwise, the Talbot was excellent!
