Candles optional
The room was surprisingly small and the hotel was without reliable power. During my stay there was an industrial generator parked out front that hummed as it ran. When the crew switched over to normal/house power, the lights strobed. And they switched back and forth during the evening making it a challenge as there were dark periods. I ended up tethering my computer to my phone as the wifi cycled along with the various power outages. The location is good ...

Reasonably affordable, great location
Decent hotel. Small but efficient single room. Location is really convenient, and that's probably the property's strongest selling point.

Poor 2.0
The price ($300/night) is outrageous for what you get. The small queen bed took up half of the room; the bed was against the window so you could not get in and out of the bed; no night tables; no coffee in the room; no information about the city in the room; wash basin blocked. I could go on. If the price had been $100 I wouldn't complain but at this price it was terrible.

Charming Hotel & Staff, - Poor Electric, Air Cond.
The only reason for my average rating is that the electricity kept going out & this was days before hurricane Doreen moved up the coast leading me to think this may be a reoccurring condition. The electricity went out repeatedly throughout my stay & the air conditioning only worked part of the time after the first power outage reading as "error". I had to go to the Boston Public Library to work remotely as the room had no chair or desk and part of the time, no electricity or air. I did, however, love the staff as they always greeted me with a smile, opened the door for me when my hands were full, offered to mail my postcard themselves rather than make me hunt for a post office box & kept the coffee area stocked in the basement lobby.

Compact, clean budget room with good design
I wanted a budget room and that's what I got, so I am happy with my stay. The service was good; I had an eye issue when I checked in, and the desk clerk gave me eye wash -- I very much appreciate his kindness. You might need to ask for an ice bucket as well (no fridge in my room). The single room is very compact, like a train car, and I enjoy trading the comfort of a bigger room for the cleverness of good design. I thought the room was clean and nicely done. I happily parked my glasses and charged my phone in a cubby right next to my bed. I enjoy small spaces and wasn't there to spend a lot of time in my room anyway. Some might feel cramped but I had plenty of room for my 2-night stay. One other thing: to get to my single room (and I saw another like it on another floor) I had to go into the starirwell, then to my room. This unconventional entry did concern me as a female solo traveler, but it was fine. I figured I couldn't miss the exit in case of a fire! But you could upgrade to a double room for not much more money.
