Gipsy Hill Hotel - Exeter
Not as good as I was anticipating
Hotel is difficult to find. It is not overly well signposted. And the roads leading to the hotel are narrow, but more importantly the trees/branches/hedges are not sufficiently trimmed back to prevent damage to your car. Parking at the hotel is relatively unstructured, there are not sufficient spaces, so you will end up using the overspill carpark at the rear. The concierge were not as reliable as they should have been for the number of rooms/guests they cater for [I do not appreciate having to make multiple requests for the same solution]. Rooms are relatively spacious, but aircon in the rooms which is a problem because there is no natural through breeze due to the shape of the hotel. No lift either to the first floor. Breakfast was good, didn't sample lunch or dinner so cannot comment. In terms of safety, could probably do with large circular mirrors to exit the hotel as it's pretty blind. Overall it was not terrible by any stretch of the imagination, it was clean and tidy if a little dated. Not too noisy or anything like that, but equally I think it's current scores are over inflated in my humble opinion. Would I stay there again? Only if I could not find a suitable alternative.

Very nice but need an update
Very friendly staff and the main hotel is very nice. However we were in the bungalow, wallpaper is pealing and the paint pealing on bottom of door frames. Room smelled stale. Restaurant food was very good, bar staff excellent. Reception staff could not be more helpful.

Wonderful stay
Lovely scenery, friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast included in price and lots of choice, was very nice. Ten minutes walk to train station and lovely church nearby in Pinhoe.

An old but friendly & welcoming hotel - once you get a long way up the narrow track to get there!
