Pretty property, that’s it…
Hotel bardo is a pretty property but it left a lot to be desired and I would not recommend it to a friend. The pool is beautiful but ice cold and mostly in the shade. Only a few (about 3) of the pool loungers get sun, the rest are nearly completely in the shade for the entirety of the day. You have to go out to the pool first thing in the morning to get a sunny lounger. It also appeared there were people who weren’t guests of the hotel using the loungers? The plunge pools for the villas are also ice cold and completely shaded. You couldn’t turn the jets on the plunge pool on and off yourself. I had to ask twice about an hour apart for ours to be turned on. Housekeeping never replaced coffee or anything. Bardo, focus on hospitality, not just decor…
When we checked out they told us the price and said that it was just food and drink charges. We said ok and paid. Later I was adding up the price which seemed well over anything we would have spent on food & drink. I asked for the details of the charges which they sent. We found a 16% charge for IVA taxes which was about $500 USD. We had thought we had already paid taxes when booking the room. Every other hotel we stayed at in Mexico (3 other hotels, 1 other, much nicer hotel in tulum on the playa) had no additional fee at checkout. They also added in charges for housekeeping, tips, etc. Fine, but it was mandatory and for that I expected better overall service while we were there. Much better places to stay in tulum, by far!
