Holmenkollen is very beautiful. If you intend to stay there, you will need a car. A cab ride into Oslo cost close to $70 or 700 Norwegian Crowns.

Don't choose the superior room
Very disappointed with the stay overall. After driving half a day, we had hoped to check in and rest but the room was not cleaned until 5pm. Upon receiving the keys (two hours after check in) we were disappointed with the room we received. Paying almost 3k NOK for a "superior" room, we received the most standard of rooms on the ground floor, right behind the smoking point by the lobby entry. No promised sofa, no hair dryer, no place to put your luggage and a shower that wet the entire bathroom. Nothing “superior" about the room aside from the view which disappeared as soon as we got the room. Maybe if you were lucky you could get a room on the second floor but definitely disappointing as we couldn't leave the curtains open without being greeted by the glances of each arriving guest. The only redeeming quality was the breakfast buffet. Shame as we had high hopes and have heard good things about the place.
