I rarely leave reviews, but I want to leave a review for Hamacho Hotel because everything about this place (the staff, the hotel, the area) was great for my stay in Tokyo.
We stayed a week and I had no complaints at all. The hotel is well within walking distant to at least three different subway lines, so getting to different parts of Tokyo and back to Hamacho is fairly easy.
The hotel has a nice small bar/dining area that plays jazz and R&B music. If their menu isn't to your liking, then there's more than enough food spots around the area (also within walking distant) to try out. Many restaurants seem to close by 10pm (including the hotel one), but there's a 24hr market that's a minute walk from Hamacho if you stayed out too long and didn't get anything to eat.
The area is very quiet, safe, and clean (as you would expect from Japan), so if you're out at 2am you have nothing to worry about at all. For English speaking tourists, the staff does speak English and are very helpful. I forgot to ask her name, but one of the hotel staff members helped us with directions to Tokyo Station for the bullet train. She searched for the directions on her phone and wrote down three different subway routes we could take, the total fare for each route, and the time it would take to get there for each option!
This was my second time in Japan, first time at this hotel, and if I ever decide to come back to Tokyo, I'll definitely be staying at the Hamacho Hotel again.
