Cheap Areas to Stay in London

London has a surprisingly large number of budget-friendly hotels, despite its reputation as one of the world's most expensive cities. You can find cheap London hotels even close to the city centre. You can start your search in Paddington in Westminster, where you'll find both train and tube stations. You can walk to Kensington Palace and Hyde Park from Paddington if you're up for it. Camden Town, famous for its alternative music scene and its colourful street markets, is another place to check out for money-saving accommodations. Overlapping Camden Town is St. Pancras, a neighbourhood once known for its graveyards, but is now better known as the main hub for Eurostar passengers.

Cheap Hotels in London

Point A Hotel Canary Wharf is conveniently located in the middle of London's financial centre. Although the rooms to be tend on the compact side, they have a warm, relaxed vibe and offer free Wi-Fi. Point A Hotel Paddington branch also has complimentary Wi-Fi in its minimalist rooms. It's also within walking distance to attractions like Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum and Selfridges Department Store. Generator Hostel in Russell Square appeals to the younger backpacker crowd, with its hip, colourful mixed dorms, laid-back restaurant and trendy lounge/bar. It also has free Wi-Fi and is a quick stroll to the British Library.

Where to find cheap food in London

London may be an expensive city but it's easy to find cheap yet satisfying eats there. Just go to a food market whenever you're hungry. London has plenty of these open-air food markets. They're filled with stalls selling nearly anything, from the iconic British fish and chips to more exotic Asian and Middle-Eastern fare. Camden Town has a lot of these markets. If you want to dine in a more comfortable indoor setting, Soho has a lot of multicultural restaurants offering meals under £10. London's neighbourhood cafés typically serve gut-busting traditional English breakfasts for under £10 too.

Cheap Things to do in London

London has some of the best museums in the world, and many have free admission. So you shouldn't miss the chance to see the British Museum's collections of significant historical artefacts. The same goes for the artworks of European masters displayed at the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery. If you're up for a stroll, London has plenty of wide open spaces, include picturesque Hyde Park and the adjoining Kensington Garden. Fascinated with the pomp and pageantry of the British monarchy? Get a glimpse of it first-hand by watching the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace and the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London. If you're a fan of Harry Potter, you can run across the Millennium Bridge pretending the Death Eaters are after you, or you can push a trolley through Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross Station.

Cheap Ways to Get Around London

London is a great city for walking. Its streets are pedestrian-friendly and its many attractions are often clustered together. So if your destination is close enough, try to walk to it. Otherwise, the cheapest and fastest way to get around London is the London Underground, better known as the Tube. The Tube is an extensive subway system that can take you anywhere in the city and to some of London's suburbs. If you're not in a hurry, you can ride London's famous double-decker bus. London also has designated cycle superhighways. Dotted around the city are rental bike terminals with minimal fees.
