Shanghai Shopping Hotels

Shanghai's a shopping paradise, whether you're after a glitzy mall where you can wander marble clad walkways drifting in and out of designer stores or a bustling market where you have to shout to be heard over the excited squawks of people haggling. When you're done splashing the cash, there are plenty of places to relax, from pond-stippled gardens and traditional teahouses to swanky restaurants and rooftop bars that seem a world away from the thronging crowds below.

Things to see

Shanghai's Nanjing Road is the city's most famous shopping destination. Stretching from the Bund to Jing'an Temple, it's a hive of activity from dawn till dusk, and well into the night. Shoppers spill in and out of well-known stores, stopping occasionally at a traditional teahouse or a pavement café to refuel and take time to gaze at one of the pedestrianised thoroughfare's many abstract sculptures. Come sunset, neon-lights illuminate the street's buildings, street musicians strum on guitars and revelers flock from bar to bar. Shanghai's Xujiahui district is another must for shoppers. Here you'll find a number of modern malls within walking distance of one another offering everything from electronics to clothes and accessories. If you fancy a break from retail therapy, join the throngs of camera toting tourists in iconic People's Square and a grab a photo in front of the musical fountain, or head up the towering Oriental Pearl for some pretty jaw dropping views of the city below.

Hotels in Shanghai

Shanghai an electric city, that's on the go 24/7. The choice of accommodation is vast, with something to suit everyone. If you're looking for shopping hotels in Shanghai such as Grand Central Hotel Shanghai, you'll find a wealth of options within stumbling distance of all of the city's must-visit retail destinations. Shanghai shopping hotels come in all shapes and sizes, from luxury high-rises offering rooftop restaurants and rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows to basic budget pads which are compact and homely. Many shopping hotels in Shanghai have onsite spas too, so you can pamper your feet after a hard day pounding the pavements.

Where to stay

Shanghai’s divided in half by the Huangpu River. On one side you'll find the cultural centre, Puxi, home to most of the city’s top attractions such as the Bund and the People's Square. This is also where you'll find Nanjing Road with its mishmash of shops and traditional tea rooms. Across the river is Pudong, home to the financial district with its skyscrapers and iconic buildings. The Xuhui district, meanwhile, mixes European flair with modern city living in the French Concession, where colonial mansions line magnolia tree-lined boulevards brimming with pavement cafés and close to thriving Xujiahui Shopping District.

How to get to Shanghai

Pudong International Airport’s the main gateway to Shanghai for those coming from abroad. It's around 40 kilometers from the centre of the city, and you can hop aboard the hi-speed Maglev train and be at Longyang Road Station in Pudong in mere minutes, and from here you can then pick up the metro. Otherwise you can take the metro direct from the airport, hail a cab or arrange a transfer with your hotel. Smaller Hongqiao International Airport, 13 kilometers away, serves mostly domestic routes and is linked to the city via the metro.
