Find out more about Ho Chi Minh City Hall

Ho Chi Minh City Hall Hotels

Ho Chi Minh City is prized for its architectural portfolio of French colonial treasures, and one of its most photogenic is the City Hall. Built in the early 20th century, the palatial cream building looks especially dazzling at night, when lights illuminate its ornate features against the black sky. Whilst Vietnam’s largest city brims with historical landmarks, there’s lots more to see too - from incense-fragranced temples and glossy modern malls, to first-rate museums and colourfully chaotic markets.

Things to see

With its grand arches, pillars, and towering bell tower, Ho Chi Minh City Hall is arguably the city’s greatest colonial jewel. However because it operates as a government building the public aren’t permitted to enter, though the park in front of it provides an excellent spot to get a few snaps. Another must-see is the redbrick Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica. Constructed during the late 1800’s in the Romanesque style, it features towering twin spires and vibrant stained glass windows.

Whilst many visitors to the city make a beeline for Ben Thanh Market, the Binh Tay Market in District 6 is not to be overlooked. Bustling with local life, the covered shopping haven features 2 stories crammed with all manner of goods, from fashion and handicrafts, as well as traditional Vietnamese grub. Don’t leave without visiting the Saigon Skydeck. Situated on the 49th floor of the gleaming Bitexco Financial Tower, the observation deck boasts breath-taking views over Ho Chi Minch City.

Hotels in Ho Chi Minh City Hall

Because of its city centre location, the hotels near Ho Chi Minh City Hall are in excellent supply. You can keep it classy and classical in an elegant Colonial style establishment, or live it up with floor-to-ceiling views in a sleek and stylish high-rise tower. Most hotels near Ho Chi Minh City Hall feature on-site bars and restaurants, with some of the larger, more luxurious digs providing fitness facilities, indulgent spas, and sometimes swimming pools too. Many also offer business and conference centres, should you be here for work and not pleasure. Whilst the city’s cheaper hotels and guesthouses offer less frilly extras such as Golden Star Hotel, they often provide WiFi and flat-screen TVs in-room.

Where to stay

A hotel near Ho Chi Minh City Hall puts you smack bang in District 1, the city’s buzzing commercial core. Set beside the river in amongst a steely cluster of skyscrapers, you can embark on endless shopping sprees along the luminous Dong Khoi Street, delve into the city’s past at the baroque Ho Chi Minh City Museum, and catch world-class performances at the elegant Opera House or Golden Dragon Water Puppet Theatre. Alongside a slew of shops, restaurants and pulsing nightlife haunts, the city centre is also where most of the city’s star attractions are located - including the grand Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica and the Saigon Skydeck.

How to get to Ho Chi Minh City Hall

The city’s primary gateway is Tan Son Nhat International, Vietnam’s largest airport. An especially well-connected hub, it provides direct links to destinations throughout Asia, as well as cities in Europe and the Middle East. Once you’ve touched down you can make the 6 kilometre or so journey to Ho Chi Minh City by bus or taxi – both of which you’ll find at the airport. Most bus services, including the No. 152, stop around the Pham Ngu Lao area in District 1, close to many of the backpacker hostels. Taxis are perhaps the quickest and most convenient method however, and they’re usually quite affordable.
