Where to stay near Kuta Beach

Kuta Beach Hotels

Once a simple fishing village, Kuta Beach has thrown off all inhibition and embraced a flashy yet vibrant reputation that caters to backpackers and families alike. By day its gorgeous white sand beach is overrun with young people soaking up sunshine or heading out into the turquoise blue waters with their surfboards to try and catch the perfect wave. As the sun sets over the ocean in a glorious display of light and colour, visitors leave the sand for a rocking party scene at local bars or walk into town for a memorable dinner before heading back to their hotel for a cooling dip in the pool.

Things to see

Kuta Beach may be a far cry from the peaceful, meditative retreats that dot much of Bali, but it is still inspiring and stress-reducing in its own way. Embrace the island vibe and get your hair plaited into ropes of tiny braids then join an impromptu beach volleyball game and burn off the calories from too many margaritas the night before. When the heat gets too intense, bask in air-conditioned comfort at nearby Beachwalk, an upmarket shopping mall that boasts high end boutiques and stunning sea views.

Learn about Balinese Hindu rituals at nearby Dharmayana Monastery, a magnificent temple built over 136 years ago, located down a small alley off Kuta Singosari Street. If you've got the kids along, spend a day screaming on thrill rides at Waterbom Park, or take a taxi to Badung and board a white submarine for unforgettable underwater views of jellyfish, sharks, and stingrays.

Hotels in Kuta Beach

Hotels near Kuta Beach are plentiful with many offering spacious, air-conditioned rooms and swimming pools, and range from budget hotels to luxury accommodation. The upmarket hotels such as Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort, are close to the beach and offer full service spas, in-house restaurants, and pool bars and rooftop terraces for late night fun. They also offer beach umbrellas to guests, providing much needed shade on the sunny beach. The budget hotels such as Puri Agung Homestay, are comfortable and are only a short walk from the beach and nearby restaurants. Many have relaxing gardens and outdoor pools.

Where to stay

For a romantic retreat, look for private bungalows on Poppies Lane where you'll find a secluded haven. To be in the heart of the hustle and bustle of Kuta Beach, look for a hotel on Jl Pantai Kuta which runs right along the beach where guests can play, surf, tan, and shop. These hotels are ideal places for friends looking for a lively spot to dance, drink, and party, or families wanting a mix of adult and family-friendly entertainments. For hotels away from the noise of party-goers, try Jl By Pass Ngurah Rai. This area gives guests a great feel for Kuta town life with its close proximity to Kuta Square and the Kuta Art Market.

How to get to Kuta Beach

Most international guests arrive at Kuta Beach via Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport. Ask your hotel if they provide an airport shuttle since many of them do as part of your accommodation cost. If your hotel doesn't, simply catch a taxi outside Departures or book a seat on an air-conditioned bus at the roundabout to the left of the airport exit.
