Mauritius Hotels

Considered by Mark Twain as the epitome of paradise, Mauritius certainly lives up to its illustrious reputation. Here luxury exists before a backdrop of verdant mountains, swaying palms, powder perfect beaches, and the crystal warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Don’t think the island is just a pretty face however. Whether its adrenaline fueled watersports, bucket list ticking dolphin swims, or soaking up the island’s diverse and colorful culture, there’s plenty to do. With its hospitality as warm as the weather, Mauritius is an unwavering favorite.

An island gilded with miles of immaculate beaches, you’ll have more than a few to choose from when you want to top up your tan. At the north of the island you’ll find Grand Bay Beach. A popular spot for sunbathing and boating, there are plenty of places to get refreshments when you need to cool down. On the west coast you’ll find Mauritius’ longest beach and possibly, one of the most idyllic. Bordered by Casuarina trees and tropical foliage, Flic en Flac Beach is a perfect cliché of white gold sands and calm aquamarine water. If the ocean beckons, explore its depths at the Blue Water Diving Center. Offering both introductory and professional dives, divers can visit shipwrecks, observe sharks, or explore enchanting corals teeming with vibrant fish. If you like to bag a bargain, get your haggle on at the Grand Baie Bazaar. A bustling craft market, here you’ll find one-of-a-kinds galore.

Where to stay

Many visitors opt for a hotel in Mauritius’ most popular tourist spot, Grand Bay on the north of the island. A vivacious hub studded with superb shopping and dining options, it’s also home to the island’s liveliest nighttime haunts. Sunbaked R&R is still a priority however, particularly on its stunning beaches. For all out tranquility, look to Flic en Flac. The once fishing village is now a luxury laden haven of pampering, relaxation, and genteel leisure. Belle Mare offers a similar stay, but with less in the way of shops and restaurants. Instead you’ll find thatched beachfront 5-stars, existing in glitzy seclusion amongst the lush greenery.

How to get to Mauritius

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International is the island’s primary airport, serving a healthy handful of major destinations should you need a connecting flight. Once you’ve landed the journey to your hotel can be made by taxi or a pre-booked shuttle service if your hotel isn’t already providing a transfer. If you’re getting into a taxi it’s advisable that you agree a rate before setting off, as journeys are rarely metered. Another alternative if you want to explore the island is to hire a car. Whilst it can set you back, it’s possible to barter if you’re staying for a while.
