Shopping, Stars, and Gardens - A Visitor’s Guide to Beverly Hills

Find a place to stay

When you think of Beverly Hills, chances are scenes of glitzy shops and glamorous people spring to mind. This manicured city offers plenty of places to pick up the latest fashions and attractions that pay tribute to Tinseltown’s history. You’ll also enjoy close proximity to Los Angeles, which features top sights including the star-lined streets of Hollywood and the Pacific Coast Highway’s busy beaches.

Rodeo Drive shopping

Rodeo Drive is surrounded by a shopping district known as the Golden Triangle, and is home to some of the world’s most exclusive boutiques as well as 2 luxury shopping malls: Two Rodeo and Rodeo Collection. Bordered by Santa Monica and Wilshire boulevards, the district is populated by hundreds of designer shops, from Chanel to Versace, and is also home to mass-market retailers such as Victoria’s Secret and Gap. Wide streets lined with palm trees, and plenty of open-air cafés and eateries make a trip to the Golden Triangle an ideal Beverly Hills outing, no matter your budget.

Local history and hotels

Beverly Hills’ history is reflected in the landmark hotels that are regularly frequented by stars. Constructed in 1912, The Beverly Hills Hotel, also known as the Pink Palace, houses the Polo Lounge, a power lunch spot that earned its name from the polo players who frequented the restaurant after playing matches in the nearby bean fields. The Beverly Wilshire Beverly Hills is another must-see hotel. Built in 1928 and set across the street from Rodeo Drive, it served as a location for the hit movie Pretty Woman.

Modern media and art exhibits

A favored address and mingling spot for Hollywood players, Beverly Hills is a natural home for tributes to the entertainment world. The Paley Center for Media exhibits TV and radio memorabilia, like the robe worn by Tony Soprano and a diner booth from the set of Seinfeld. If you’re looking for an afternoon of modern art, you can visit the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, which is located in a mansion on a residential street off Sunset Boulevard. It features a private collection of over 400 works by seminal painters including Picasso and Miro.

Cruise to Los Angeles

Situated between Hollywood and the Pacific Ocean, Beverly Hills is an ideal home base for your Los Angeles visit. The Hollywood Walk of Fame, a sidewalk tribute to the stars of American cinema, is a 15-minute drive east. Along the way, you can cruise the Sunset Strip, filled with vibrant billboards and legendary nightclubs like House of Blues and Whisky a Go Go. Yearning for sun and sand? Head west to Santa Monica, where you can people watch and shop along Third Street Promenade. Afterwards, you can visit historic Santa Monica pier or take a dip in the Pacific Ocean.

Parks and gardens

In the early 20th century, landscape architect Wilbur D. Cook created the Beverly Gardens Park, a greenbelt along Santa Monica Boulevard that acts as a buffer between the residential and commercial sections of Beverly Hills. The nearly 2-mile park is characterized by wide granite walking paths, an elegant electric fountain from the 1930s, and an iconic 40-foot-long Beverly Hills sign. Other notable green spaces include the English gardens at Greystone Mansion & Gardens, and Virginia Robinson Gardens, which house tropical palms, roses, and herbs.
